Brennan Johnson is left bloodied after horror head collision with Nottingham Forest defender Willy Boly as the Tottenham star is subbed off at his former club to chants of ‘he’s one of our own’

Brennan Johnson left the pitch with his face covered in blood after being withdrawn from Tottenham's Premier League match against Nottingham Forest with a deep head wound.

The 22-year-old attacking talent made his first return to the City Ground after leaving Forest for Spurs for a fee of £47.5 million, but was forced off after just 32 minutes.

Johnson was helping defend Tottenham's box when he accidentally collided with Forest defender Willy Boly's heads before falling to the ground.

The horror collision sent team medics rushing onto the field as play was immediately stopped while Johnson received treatment and time to recover.

It was clear he wouldn't be able to continue as Johnson sat up and was seen with blood on his head. He was then helped to his feet and off the field by former teammate Morgan Gibbs-White.

Johnson's deep head wound meant he walked straight into the tunnel to receive further treatment, as chants from Forest supporters rang out across the ground.

The Wales international came through the club's ranks and was warmly cheered amid shouts of 'he's one of our own' by home fans.

It was a frustrating end to his evening as the Spurs summer recruit was replaced by midfielder Oliver Skipp and Dejan Kulusevski moved to the right wing where Johnson played.

Kulusevski would later provide the assist for the opening goal as Ange Postecoglou's side took the lead on the stroke of half-time through Richarlison's header.

Johnson had previously discussed how much returning to his old club meant to him in an interview with Sky Sports before the match.
