Brenda Lee makes music history as her holiday hit Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree hits number 1 for the first time – 65 YEARS after it was first released

Brenda Lee made music history on Monday.

Rockin' Around the Christmas tree, which the 78-year-old singer first released in 1958, reached number one on the Billboard charts for the first time.

Rockin' Around the Christmas tree has come close to number one several times, reaching number two in 2019 and again in 2022, according to Billboard.

Dolly Parton, who recently reminisced about meeting Keanu Reeves as a child, reached out to congratulate her longtime friend and the song's 65-year history on social media.

“Well, hey Brenda Lee,” the 77-year-old superstar said. “I want to join you in celebrating the 65th anniversary of your classic hit Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree.”

The hitmaker was dressed in a sparkling pink outfit with a plunging neckline in the clip shared to Instagram.

Her blonde hair was styled in loose waves and she wore natural-looking makeup with a muted pink lip.

The Grammy winner was adorned with dangling earrings made of precious pink stones.

Dolly couldn't resist promoting her own Rock Star album, which was released on November 17.

She ended the message by wishing her fellow singer a 'Merry Christmas' and singing the line 'and I will love you forever' from her most successful song.

Rockin' Around the Christmas tree went five times platinum and flirted with number one several times, but never climbed higher than number two in 2019 and in 2022.

In honor of the song's 65th anniversary, a video was made for the song, featuring the crooner in a bright red holiday dress singing the tune at a family tree cutting party.

Tanya Tucker, 65, and Trisha Yearwood, 59, made guest appearances.

Brenda was only 13 when she recorded the song by the late Johnny Marks.

The Bronze Star medalist was Jewish, but had had great success writing holiday songs, including the music for Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and Run Rudolph Run.

She is the oldest artist to ever have a holiday song top the Billboard 100, and the song holds the record for the longest wait to reach the high score.

It is her third number one song and her first since 1960.

Several other holiday hits chart in the top 10, including Bobby Helms' Jingle Bell Rock at number four, George Michael's beloved Last Christmas at fifth followed by 'Burl Ives and A Holly Jolly Christmas at sixth, and Andy William's classic It's the Most Wonderful. Time of the Year landed at number 10.
