Arsenal are completing their attempts to sign Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto on loan. The goalkeeper must now undergo a medical with the north London club before the transfer window closes tonight.

Southampton reached an agreement earlier this week for Ramsdale, which could be worth up to £25m, while Mikel Arteta’s side have since entered talks to sign Joan Garcia from Espanyol.

But talks now appear to have stalled and Arsenal will not pursue a deal to sign the Espanyol keeper at this stage.

Arsenal were also unprepared for the £16million valuation Espanyol were willing to pay for Garcia.

Instead, it appears the Gunners are set to sign the 35-year-old goalkeeper on loan from Bournemouth, although there is no obligation or option to buy the 35-year-old Brazilian.

Mikel Arteta’s side are reportedly keen to sign Neto on loan and will have no obligation to buy him.

Neto joined Bournemouth from Barcelona in 2022, having previously played for Valencia, Juventus and Fiorentina.

After his arrival, Neto became Bournemouth’s first choice goalkeeper. Andoni Iraola gave him the captain’s armband last season. The goalkeeper played 32 league matches and kept seven clean sheets.

Ramsdale was due to undergo a medical on Tuesday evening before moving to the south coast.

The Gunners had informed Ramsdale that he could leave the club if a suitable offer was made to him.

Newcastle are hoping to complete a £20million deal with Burnley to sign 21-year-old goalkeeper James Trafford.
