Boston’s Linus Ullmark is the 13th goaltender in NHL HISTORY to score a goal…becoming the first Bruins goaltender to do so and the first goaltender in three years to score one into the net in a game against the Vancouver Canucks .

Boston Bruins goalie Linus Ullmark decided the time was right to become the franchise’s first goalie to score in a game.

At the end of a 2-1 game against the Vancouver Canucks, the Canucks had the net empty in order to have an extra skater on the ice to try and score a goal.

After a deflection by skater Brock Boeser, Ullmark cornered the puck and sent a wrist snap over the heads of three skaters and across the ice, with the puck sliding into the net.

He was mobbed by his teammates on the ice and came down to the bench for a handshake line, content to have scored the last goal in a 3–1 win.

Substitute goalkeeper Jeremy Swayman later took to the ice for his now-traditional ‘goalkeeper hug’, but this time with more enthusiasm.

Ullmark becomes the first goaltender in Boston Bruins history to score a goal in a game and the 13th goaltender in league history to score.

He is the first goaltender to score in a game since Nashville’s Pekka Rinne did so against the Chicago Blackhawks on January 9, 2020.

Vancouver now holds two ignominious records for goaltending goals. They become the third franchise (second team) to have two goaltending goals scored, joining the New Jersey Devils and the Hartford Whalers/Carolina Hurricanes.

The Canucks also join the Whalers/Huracanes as the only franchises to have two goaltending goals scored at home.

It should be noted that the Hartford and Carolina goalie goals were scored in separate cities, and therefore in separate buildings.

Rogers Arena, the home of the Canucks, is the first building in the NHL to have two goaltender goals against the home team. The first came in 2002 when San Jose Sharks goaltender Evgeni Nabokov scored.

The only other stadium in which multiple goalkeeper goals have been scored is the now-vacant Meadowlands Arena (formerly known as Continental Airlines Arena) in New Jersey, where Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur scored twice at home.
