Biden makes another gaffe by falsely claiming his Catholic school teacher was drafted by the Green Bay Packers

President Joe Biden was caught trying too hard to trick Wisconsin voters when he told an apparently false story about a teacher at his Catholic high school in Delaware being drafted by the Green Bay Packers.

β€œMy theology professor at the Catholic school I went to was named Reilley, last name. And he was drafted by the Green Bay Packers,” Biden said during a speech in Sturtevant, Wisconsin, on Wednesday.

‘And he decided to become a priest before that, so he didn’t go. But every single Monday that Green Bay won, we got the last period of the day off,” Biden said.

The line was first flagged as a potential Ron Burgundy moment by online users who wondered why the president said “last name.”

But online sleuths quickly searched online draft documents of the Green Bay Packers dating back to the 1930s, with no apparent Rileys or Reilleys drafted.

Biden called a hearing in Wisconsin and told a story about a theology professor at his Catholic school who he said was drafted by the Green Bay Packers. Such details were not immediately available and he told a different version of the story a few years ago

‘We Catholics call that indirect bribery. But it worked,” said Biden, who drew many smiling Catholic working-class people in the Rust Belt state.

Adding to the mystery, Biden told another story in 2021 about Father Diny instilling a lifelong love with the Packers in Biden, who lived in Delaware and Pennsylvania during his childhood.

β€œI went to a Catholic boys’ school in Claymont, Delaware, where I was taught by an order of priests called the Premonstratensians,” he said. told WTMJ earlier. ‘The Premonstratensians had their abbey house in DePere.

“Every Sunday the Packers won, the principal… Father Justin E. Diny got on the PA system and said, ‘Gentlemen, no last class today.’

β€œHe made us all Packers fans. Plus, I’m afraid I’ll go to hell if I don’t root for the Packers. Father Diny may return. I can’t go against Father Diny. He will come out of his grave if he knew I was pleading for someone else.”

Diny is listed as a former headmaster of Archmere Academywhere Biden played high school football.

Only one Reilly in the club’s history was drafted in 1947 and became a general in the Air Force. New York Post reported.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the apparent discrepancies. But an official White House transcript released Wednesday afternoon included the spelling “Reilley” amid Biden’s comments.

The failed play came as Biden swept through battleground Wisconsin, where he tore up a planned $10 billion factory once touted by Donald Trump as a “con job” and ridiculed his predecessor for encouraging it.

He ridiculed Trump in Sturtevant, Wisconsin for cheering the massive factory project in Racine, declaring it the “eighth wonder of the world,” while announcing a new Microsoft facility at the same location that would serve as an AI data center.

β€œHe and his administration promised a $10 billion investment by Foxconn to build a new manufacturing complex that would create 13,000 new jobs. In fact, he came here with your Senator Ron Johnson, literally with a gold shovel in his hand, promising to build the eighth wonder of the world. Are you joking?’ Biden asked, drawing laughter from a crowd of supporters.

‘Look what happened. They dug a hole with those gold shovels – and then they fell in.”

Look, they didn’t scoop up any other dirt – they did scoop up some dirt. 100 houses were bulldozed. They wasted hundreds of millions of dollars of your state and local tax dollars to promise a project that never happened. Foxconn turned out to be exactly a scammer.’

“Go and have a look,” he said.

Trump had announced the plan to much fanfare in 2017 as part of his “America First” agenda,” but the Taiwanese company drastically scaled back a few years later, citing ‘market fluctuations.’

Trump leads Biden in the battleground state by half a percentage point in the latest RealClearPolitics average, in a state that Trump carried in 2016 but Biden broke away from him in 2020.

In Wisconsin, as in the battlegrounds of Michigan and Pennsylvania, Biden is suffering from reduced support for youth, concerns about maintaining the support of black voters he enjoyed in 2020, and divisions over Israel’s war in Gaza.

He plans to meet with volunteers as his campaign, which is boosting staff and offices, announced a new $14 million ad buy.

Now Microsoft is promising 2,300 union construction jobs and a similar number of permanent jobs to run a data center there.

Microsoft President Brad Smith told the AP that the company had “an steadfast commitment to under-promising and over-delivering” and challenged the Biden administration on its role. Wisconsin Rep. Bryan Steil (R) said Biden doesn’t want to talk about his inflation policies.
