President Joe Biden received Biden-branded football equipment from the Air Force Falcons, the winners of the Commander-in-Chief trophy, which the president presented to them on Friday.

“Where I’m going, I might need that helmet,” Biden croaked, looking at the helmet, football, and a number 46 Air Force jersey with “President Biden” written on the back.

Tonight, Biden faces a friendly audience — he, First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Mr Doug Emhoff are on their way to a Democratic National Committee fundraiser at Washington’s lavish Salamander Hotel.

But on Saturday night, Biden is expected to deliver a comedic piece at the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

He tried out some zingers in the East Room on Friday afternoon, marveling at the size of the Commander-in-Chief trophy.

First, Biden pointed to dignitaries in the crowd, including Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Mark Milley.

“He played hockey,” Biden told the rows of football players who stood on stage with him and laughed.

Emhoff also sat in the front row, as did West Wing actor Bradley Whitford, who also spent time at the White House on Thursday and is one of the celebrities in town for the White House Correspondents’ Dinner this weekend.

“I played a little bit of football when I was in high school, I wasn’t bad, in college I was bad,” Biden joked, before sharing how he learned “teamwork and respect” from his coaches.

Biden also revealed that he would deliver the Air Force Academy commencement speech at the end of May.

“You’re stuck with me being your novice speaker,” he said.

He also quoted President Eisenhower’s first speech to the first batch of Air Force Academy graduates.

“I wasn’t there,” Biden burst out. “Regardless of what the press says.”

The Falcons have now won 21 Commander-in-Chief trophies, Biden continued.

“And I expect you to take it home, Coach,” he said. “That trophy is bigger than the Super Bowl trophy. No, it really is,” the president said, challenging the team to “pick it up over your head and go wild.”

The trophy weighs approximately 170 pounds.

The president was then presented with his gifts by the team captains, holding up the jersey for the public to see.
