Biden refuses to consider wearing hearing aids, report reveals

President Joe Biden won’t take Americans’ concerns about his advanced age seriously, refusing — for example — to consider wearing a hearing aid to make his public appearances louder as he seeks a second term. Politico reported Wednesday that Democrats are so worried about the 80-year-old not admitting the situation with seniors in the room that some are even arguing that Biden should woo a Democratic front-runner.

Rep. Dean Phillips, D-Minnesota, has not closed the door on launching a bid in New Hampshire, where Biden will not appear on the ballot in January due to a redistricting by Democrats. If Phillips — or another Democrat — jumps into the race, it could be used as an opportunity for Biden to prove his ability to lead to a second term, some Democrats said.

“Only positive things could come from an open and competitive presidential primary,” Rep. Hilary Solten told Politico that the 80-year-old Oval Office holder could prove his mettle. “It’s a disservice to all of us if we ignore the public’s concerns about the president’s image.” Democrats, Scholten said, should “get more people out there, what are we afraid of? It is problematic that we ignore it. It makes us look out of touch, it makes us look scared.’

In August, an Associated Press-NORC poll found that 77 percent of Americans believed Biden was too old to be effective for four more years, including a whopping 69 percent of Democrats.

While Democrats often point to the fact that former President Donald Trump, 77, is also facing ageism, 51 percent of respondents expressed that view in this particular survey — a 26-point gap.

Politico reported that, so far, the Biden-Harris 2024 campaign has not polled to test how the 80-year-old president might best address the issue of age. The president and the White House press secretary have joked about it – “try to be 110,” Biden said, while Karine Jean-Pierre said ’80 is the new 40′.

Biden has also teased challengers by saying “watch me.” But The Americans — with moments like Biden falling off his bike, tripping over a sandbag and falling down the steps of Air Force One — so much so that he now uses the shortest flight of stairs — have gone viral.

“I think it’s important to address it,” Sen. Jeanne Shaheen advised Politico when asked about the age issue. Sen. Jon Tester, a Democrat from Montana who is running for re-election, agreed.
