Beloved fast-food chain shutters at LEAST 12 locations nationwide… is YOURS closing?

Several Wendy’s locations in Michigan have closed just weeks after the fast-food chain announced it would close 140 of its restaurants across the country.

The company appeared to confirm the closures after removing at least 12 restaurants from its website.

Wendy’s has not confirmed the exact dates of all closures, but it said several locations were operating over the past week MLive.com.

A Wendy’s spokesperson confirmed that the restaurant chain had shared plans to close locations following a “strategic review” of the global system in a statement to The Daily Telegram.

The spokesperson confirmed that two of the outposts were in Adrian and Tecumseh, Michigan.

These locations have posted signs on their doors directing customers to other Wendy’s restaurants.

In addition, a Wendy’s in Livonia, Michigan was listed as temporarily closed and the daily hours of a Wendy’s in a Detroit hospital listed the location as closed.

There are now 226 Wendy’s locations across the state.

The fast food chain has announced plans to close 140 locations across the country before Christmas.

Wendy’s confirmed in an October 2024 earnings call that the closures were due to the locations being “outdated” and “underperforming.”

Wendy’s CEO Kirk Tanner did not discuss where the other Wendy’s closures will occur, but said “it’s not a specific area.”

The CEO added that Wendy’s “conducted a thorough assessment of individual restaurants to ensure they meet our sales expectations, have the profitability to drive growth and deliver the Wendy’s brand experience to customers.”

The 140 closures are in addition to the 100 shuttered restaurants Wendy’s announced in May 2024.

Like this round of closures, the 100 locations announced in May were partially closed due to underperformance.

Wendy’s plans to take the right steps to ensure its business can thrive again.

“As a 55-year-old brand with more than 7,100 locations worldwide, closures are a normal activity to maintain a high-performing system,” a Wendy’s spokesperson told The Daily Telegram.

“The brand is incredibly healthy and we remain on track to meet our goal of 250 to 300 new restaurant openings this year.”

The spokesperson added that by the end of this year, Wendy’s will have opened more than 500 locations between 2023 and 2024.

Wendy’s confirmed it plans to replace its 140 restaurants with more profitable locations.

The company considers a location profitable if it produces an average unit volume of $2 million or more.

Wendy’s isn’t the only restaurant chain that has closed several restaurants across the country.

TGI Fridays abruptly closed 50 locations across the country in October 2024 after reports that the company was considering filing for bankruptcy.

The 50 locations are in addition to the 36 restaurants that TGI Fridays already closed in the US last January.

Dickey’s Barbecue Pit recently announced it would close 30 locations after closing nearly 100 locations.

The barbecue chain attributes the continued decline in sales to recent restaurant closures.

Daily Mail has contacted Wendy’s for comment.
