Masked creep offers boy, 9, $1,000 to get into his car in kidnap attempt outside Bellaire Primary School in Geelong

A masked creep has tried to kidnap a nine-year-old boy outside a school by offering him $1,000 to get into his car.

Mother Belinda Van Steeg, 45, said the male stranger offered her son the huge sum of cash to lure him into his white car near Bellaire Primary School on Cuthbert Ave in Geelong on Tuesday.

The boy was left ‘scared and anxious’ by the ordeal.

His mother said the boy “freaked out” and immediately drove home. The incident was reported to the police.

Belinda Van Steeg, 45, said the creep offered her son $1000 and demanded he get into the white car at Bellaire Primary School (pictured) on Cuthbert Ave in Geelong, Victoria, on Tuesday.

“It’s every parent’s worst nightmare,” says Ms Van Steeg the Geelong Advertiser.

“(My son) said he was wearing a mask and he couldn’t see his face.”

Bellaire Primary School has informed parents about the incident.

A spokesperson for the Department of Education confirmed that a report had been made ‘of a student being approached by a man near the school’.

“The school advised the boy’s mother to contact Victoria Police and has communicated with the school community about ways students can be safe traveling to and from school,” he said.

‘The safety of students is always our first priority and although at this stage we have no reason to believe this is more than a one-off event, it is a timely reminder for parents to reinforce safety messages to their children. ‘

Ms Van Steeg says not much can be done without a license plate and detailed description of the person, but she hopes talking about it will raise awareness.

She said parents often teach their children about “stranger danger,” without thinking that these things can happen in a split second.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Victoria Police for comment.
