Banksy ‘buys £1 million pub’ in Glastonbury Festival village where regulars claim to have seen elusive graffiti artist watch rugby
- The graffiti artist is rumored to have raided the Somerset pub
Banksy has reportedly bought a recently refurbished village pub near the Glastonbury Festival and some locals claim he saw rugby in the local village.
The Crown in Pilton, Somerset has recently come to the end of a £1 million refurbishment and there are strong rumors that the famed graffiti artist was involved in the works as a way to throw some of his money away.
The 17th-century pub reopened last year after being closed for extensive works for almost two years.
The new design includes a host of modern features, including a full restaurant and a recreation of the famous Pyramid stage in the garden.
The pub itself is full of quirky artwork, including a squirrel playing pool, but the Sun reports none are believed to have been created by Banksy.

Dorcas Casey’s choice of works, which was featured in Banksy’s Dismaland 2015 exhibition, adds further fuel to the fire involving the artist herself.
A source told The Sun that Banksy was attracted to the location because of the Glastonbury corner.
They said: ‘Banksy loved the idea of being part of Glastonbury and the right message.
It’s also a gateway to all the music superstars in attendance. He put quite a bit of money into it.’
And locals claim the elusive performer has already been spotted ‘watching rugby’ in the pub.
However, Companies House records show that the pub is currently owned by KS Property.
The owner of the pub Owain Powel – who lives on a camp near Worthy Farm – has denied that Bansky is involved with the pub.
He told The Sun: ‘I bought the pub with some friends.’
