Balenciaga’s creative director Demna KEEPS his job despite being responsible for the twisted images of children campaign as he apologizes and vows to ‘do better’

  • Demna, 41, has massively boosted the brand’s profits since joining in 2015.
  • He built lucrative partnerships with stars like Kim Kardashian and Bella Hadid.
  • Demna released his first personal statement on the scandal on Friday.
  • He apologized for the use of children in a campaign ad with teddy bears, saying it was an “incorrect artistic choice of concept”.
  • The brand insists it had nothing to do with legal documents outlining child pornography laws that ended in a second photo shoot.

Balenciaga’s creative director Demna is allowed to continue in the role despite growing outrage over the use of children in a bondage-style shoot.

The 41-year-old Georgia native has been widely blamed and criticized for the scandals, with growing calls for him to resign or be fired.

But on Friday, nearly two weeks after the scandal broke, he issued a statement apologizing for the “wrong artistic choice” of using children in the ad campaign, but making it clear he wasn’t going anywhere.

I need to learn from this, listen and get involved with child protection organizations to find out how I can contribute and help on this terrible issue.

“I apologize to anyone offended by the images and Balenciaga has ensured that appropriate steps will be taken not only to prevent similar mistakes in the future, but also to take responsibility for protecting child welfare in every way possible.” said.

But on Friday, nearly two weeks after the scandal broke, he issued a statement suggesting he wasn’t going anywhere.

At the beginning of the statement, he said: “I want to personally apologize for the incorrect artistic choice of the concept for the gift campaign with children and I take my responsibility.”

“It was inappropriate for children to promote items that had nothing to do with them.

As much as I would sometimes like to provoke thought through my work, I would NEVER intend to do so with an issue as terrible as child abuse which I condemn. Period.’

It comes amid growing outrage over the brand’s decision to use children in the holiday ad campaign to showcase its teddy bear bags, and over the inclusion of legal documents outlining child pornography laws in the background of a different photo session.

There are planned protests in various cities this weekend with stars like Anna Lynne McCord vowing to boycott the brand.

There is also growing outrage that Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman and other department stores continue to carry Balenciaga products.

Demna lives in Paris with her husband and has not been seen since the scandal broke two weeks ago.

It started with the bear BDSM shoot, which went public in mid-November.

The campaign featured children posing amidst empty wine and champagne glasses, holding bear bags that were decorated with BDSM harnesses. Some of the bears had their eyes gouged out.

It wasn’t to advertise a line of children’s clothing or accessories.

Almost immediately, there was an uproar among mothers and consumers who denounced the impropriety of the children involved.

Outraged by the campaign, critics of the brand seized on a second photo shoot, completed in July, in which a printout of a SCOTUS hearing on child pornography law was hidden in the background.

Critics said the two problems combined pointed to a pattern in the brand, a charge he strongly denies.
