A relaxed family cookout in a sleepy seaside town turned into unimaginable horror for two young parents when their five-week-old baby was brutally mutilated without warning by two Rottweilers.
Family friends of little Mia Jade Riley revealed how the girl was sleeping next to a table of six to eight adults at her grandfather’s house in Moruya, on the south coast of New South Wales, on Saturday night when it happened. the tragedy around 10:40 pm
They said the dogs were harmlessly dozing about ten feet from the crib when, for no apparent reason, they suddenly pounced on the sleeping newborn.
Just days earlier, Mia Jade’s father, Tom Riley, had posted on South Coast Spine Care’s Facebook page where he worked as a chiropractor, saying he planned to only work four days a week so he could spend more time with family.
She had traced the exciting days before and after the arrival of her and Lani Riley’s second child.

Doctors at the nearby Moruya Hospital were unable to save Mia Jade (pictured) and she died shortly after midnight.

In the same post, the proud dad tells his patients that Mia Jade was ‘safely delivered home’ on Monday, January 6.
He planned to return to work “after some much-needed family time surrounded by all my beautiful girls.”
But just days before the devastating attack, Mr. Riley tells his patients that he must give up a day at the clinic to “spend time with my children.”
On Saturday, Mr. and Mrs. Riley jumped in to take the dogs from their baby as horrified dinner guests rushed to help.
They wrapped the blood-soaked girl and drove her to the nearby Moruya Hospital.
But the doctors could not save her and she died from her head injuries shortly after midnight.
“Everyone had to be involved to get the dogs out,” a family friend told Daily Mail Australia.
‘There was a considerable amount of blood, it was terrible.
‘There was just no warning.
“They were having a family barbecue with the neighbors at the back of the property and then they turned around and the dogs were all over her.
“There were no other children, the dogs were not running and nobody provoked them or anything. They were not agitated or distraught.
“It just happened out of the blue.”
A friend said Tom and Lani Riley’s two-year-old daughter had also been around the dogs several times since she was born without incident.

He said the couple’s other two-year-old daughter had also been around the dogs multiple times since she was born without incident.
“They have another child who has probably been in the same or very similar position,” he said.
‘There has never been a problem. It’s really awful. It is beyond words.
He said the tight-knit coastal city was recovering from the attack.
“It’s really impacted this little community,” he said. There’s nothing you can say. It’s that tragic.
‘This will be very difficult for the whole family to handle. I spoke to Grandpa and he is in shock.

The baya girl was rushed to Moruya Hospital on Saturday night, but died several hours later.
Eurobodalla Shire Council has since seized two Rottweilers.
A spokeswoman confirmed that council rangers had confiscated the dogs, but was unable to comment further due to the ongoing police investigation.
The spokeswoman could not confirm if the dogs were euthanized, which is standard practice after a fatal dog attack.
A NSW Police investigation has been launched into what exactly happened at the house and a police spokesperson was unable to provide further comment.
