Axeman beheads his father, 71, then kicks the severed head along the main road before throwing it to passersby

  • The man, 46, is said to have kicked his head as if it were a football

An axeman is said to have beheaded his father before kicking the severed head along the main road and then throwing it at a passerby.

The crazed 46-year-old is said to have kicked the victim’s head as if it were a football on a main road passing through his hometown of Soto de Ribera, near the city of Oviedo in Asturias.

Police suspect he beheaded his father, 71, with an ax before using the same weapon to attack the vehicles of shocked motorists on the road.

One of the drivers who witnessed the macabre scene said on social media: ‘A crazy man at the roundabout in Soto de Ribera has just killed someone.

‘There’s an old man’s head on the asphalt and a younger man with no top on, covered in blood, who just threw himself at my car.

‘The police arrived and pushed him to the ground. Unbelievable.’

Another passing motorist witness, named Arancha Lombas, told a local newspaper: ‘He threw his head at me after standing in front of me.

‘He had his head in his hand and was laughing. As I walked past him, I turned and saw him playing with his head like it was a football. He must have thrown it at others.’

A local resident told how he was drinking cider in a bar when a man walked in and asked the bar owner: ‘Let me wash my hands because I’m covered in blood, someone has murdered someone else and he’s standing half naked on the roundabout kicking cars.

“I helped the police get him under control so they could arrest him, but he threw his head at me.”

The detainee, who was topless and covered in blood when detained, was taken to a police station before being transferred to a hospital psychiatric ward.

He has so far only been identified by his initials: PM. The dead man had two other children.

It is not yet known why his son, who is said to have lived with his alleged victim in a house near the roundabout where the horror scene took place, allegedly went on the rampage.

The alarm was raised last night around 10 p.m.

A police spokesman confirmed: ‘We have arrested a man on suspicion of murdering his father.

‘He was taken to a police station, but given the condition he was in, he was then transferred to a hospital in Oviedo and admitted to a psychiatric ward.

“Initial reports referred to motorists being attacked by the detained man, but that information is incorrect and there have been no other casualties.”

A police source added: ‘Several cars were left covered in blood, with the suspect allegedly throwing his father’s severed head at passing vehicles at a roundabout on the road that passes through Soto de Ribera.’

Another source close to the ongoing investigation said: ‘The investigation is still ongoing, but public information officers currently know that the arrested man had no criminal record.

“We are still trying to find out why he became so angry.”
