Asylum seeker is found after entering Australia illegally by boat and separating from ‘group of Chinese nationals’ – as arrivals are transported to Nauru

An asylum seeker has been found after he became separated from a group that arrived illegally in Australia by boat.

He was located in the Mitchell Plateau area, northern Western Australia, on Sunday morning and is now being assessed by authorities.

It is believed he became separated from a “group of Chinese nationals” who arrived in the remote Kimberley region at around 4pm on Friday.

Asked about border security concerns, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese argued that no changes will be made to the country’s approach to border protection in response to the latest arrival.

‘We have a very large coastline. What is clear, however, is that people who arrive unauthorized will not settle in Australia,” he said.

β€œThe principles of Operation Sovereign Borders will apply as they do in this case.”

More to come.
