Arsenal fans are forced to vacate their seats after the roof of the Emirates Stadium leaked HUGE during their 1-1 draw with Sporting Lisbon… as Gunners fans soak up the rain during their elimination from the europa league

Arsenal fans were forced to vacate their seats during the 1-1 draw with Sporting Lisbon after the stadium suffered extensive leaks.

The Gunners were knocked out of the Europa League after goals from Granit Xhaka and Pedro Goncalves leveled the aggregate score at 3-3.

Mikel Arteta’s men were then taken to a penalty shootout, where they lost 5-3 after a missed penalty by Gabriel Martinelli gave the visitors the lead.

And, to make matters worse, a number of Arsenal fans were drenched when Emirates roof leaks began to pour down into various sections of the stadium.

Images shared by fans on social media showed two areas where water was flowing towards fans, both at the East Stand and at the Clock End.

Fans were forced to vacate their seats as they watched their competition sideswipe.

Both the east stand and the clock end were affected by leaks from the stadium on Thursday.

The videos clearly showed that Arsenal fans had moved from their seats to avoid the torrential fall that came with ten minutes of normal time still remaining in the game.

It was far from an ideal night for the hosts as, in addition to their water leak problems, they were knocked out of the Europa League after a long battle with Sporting.

Granit Xhaka had put Arsenal ahead in the first half before a spectacular goal from center circle brought Sporting level, with Pedro Golcalves plowing past Aaron Ramsdale from the halfway line.

After intense extra time, with the score still level, the game went to penalties. Arsenal winger Gabriel Martinelli was the only player to miss from the penalty spot as Ruben Amorim’s side booked their place in the quarter-finals.

After the match, Gunners boss Arteta insisted that his team failed to “find our rhythm and flow” during the match in north London.

“We really wanted to go through and fight in the competition and go for it,” Arteta said. “Today we tried and it was not enough.

‘We didn’t find our rhythm and flow, we were late, we gave away the ball many, many times. We found our rhythm in the last 20 minutes but we didn’t score.

We showed incredible energy and mentality, but we didn’t win. The penalty is a lottery.
