Apple CEO Tim Cook confirms May 7 unveiling event with cryptic teaser

For Apple fans, there’s nothing more exciting than an unveiling event.

Now the tech giant is gearing up to host the first of the year – which takes place in less than two weeks.

Apple CEO Tim Cook posted a cryptic animated teaser for the event, which he confirmed will be streamed online on May 7.

The animation shows the Apple logo in several bright colors and artistic styles, including one with a hand holding a stylus.

The Apple boss too told his X followers to ‘sign us up’, referring to what the company has in store.

Although the company has not yet confirmed which new products will be announced, rumors are circulating furiously online.

According to Apple tipster Mark Gurman, the company is about to unveil several new iPads, including a Pro with a “snazzy new OLED screen.”

OLED screens – which offer better picture quality – have been fitted to iPhones since 2017, but not iPads.

This will be confirmed by MacRumorswhich reports that two iPad Pro models with OLED and two iPad Air models will be announced.

They would be the first new iPads since 2022 and mark the longest wait for new iPads in the company’s history.

There will also be an Apple Pencil with a pinch gesture for certain actions and a new Magic Keyboard (Apple’s line of wireless computer keyboards), MacRumors adds.

Apple has been contacted for comment, although the tech giant is notoriously tight-lipped ahead of product releases.

It is said to be working on at least two new smartphones, although these are not expected to be unveiled at next month’s event.

The first – the iPhone 16 – should be unveiled in early September and could feature a new ‘Capture Button’.

With a single press, the Capture button takes photos and launches video clips, offering users an alternative to tapping the screen.

The second new phone will reportedly be the iPhone SE 4, the latest in Apple’s ‘budget’ SE line, expected to be released in spring 2025.

Leaked renders suggest it will have a 6.1-inch display, a USB-C charging port and a single primary camera on the back.

Shortly after the May event, Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will take place from June 10 to 14, although it will focus on new software rather than hardware.

Apple boss Tim Cook has also teased a “huge” AI announcement coming “later this year” – possibly a product similar to ChatGPT.

Speaking about Apple’s quarterly earnings report in early February, he said: “As we look ahead, we will continue to invest in these and other technologies that will shape the future.

‘That also includes artificial intelligence, in which we continue to invest an enormous amount of time and effort.

“We are excited to share details of our ongoing work in that area later this year.”

Social media mocks Apple as it scraps its plans for an autonomous electric car after a decade of work – as one user jokes, “they realized that required Windows!”

Despite spending billions of dollars on the project over the past decade, Apple has scrapped efforts to build its own self-driving electric car.

Social media users have mercilessly mocked the tech giant, which will reportedly fire employees who worked on the ambitious plan.
