During Hunter Biden’s testimony in Congress, House Democrats called the ongoing impeachment inquiry an “embarrassment” for Republicans, adding that their pursuit of the president’s son is nothing more than a “wild goose chase” .
Hunter Biden appeared before a media fanfare Wednesday morning for his long-awaited testimony in his father’s ongoing impeachment inquiry, as Republicans continue to investigate Joe Biden.
The Republican Party-led committee has alleged that President Biden improperly used his influence to help his son Hunter’s business, allowing the younger Biden to make millions of dollars through shady dealings over the years.
They are also investigating whether the president was ever paid for his influence.
However, Democrats have repeatedly called the impeachment inquiry a sham and a waste of time.
“It’s just so embarrassing that Republicans are continuing this wild goose chase for President Biden,” progressive Rep. Greg Casar, D-Texas, said Wednesday morning before issuing the statement.
“I mean, they’re acting like Hunter Biden is running for president.”
Another Democrat told reporters that Hunter asked Republican lawmakers about foreign investments that former President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, secured after leaving the White House.

House Democrats, during Hunter Biden’s congressional testimony, called the ongoing impeachment inquiry an “embarrassment” for Republicans, adding that their pursuit of the president’s son is nothing more than a “wild goose chase.” .
Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez said the Republican-led investigation is tainted because one of the central informants in the case had ties to Russian intelligence
Representative Ocasio-Cortez and Representative Raskin have spoken out strongly in support of President Biden
“He made the distinction between what he did in a business world with independent businessmen versus foreign governments, which, unlike Jared Kushner, he did not do business with,” said Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y.
Some Democrats who were in the statement similarly told reporters that the meeting was lackluster.
“If you ever wonder why 50 percent of this country doesn’t vote, look no further than the hour we just spent on this statement,” Rep. Maxwell Frost, D-Fla., said after leaving office . the meeting behind closed doors after an hour.
The first hour of the deposition “was the nail in the coffin of what is a complete, bogus and sham impeachment inquiry,” Rep. Daniel Goldman said after leaving office.
Republicans are so desperate to humiliate the president that they have started asking the president for some personal details about a divorce that took place nearly a decade ago. That’s what this has been reduced to,” Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., told reporters.
One of the leading Democrats to oppose the investigation, Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., said the hearing was a “huge waste” of time and resources.
This has been a “comedy of errors” from the beginning, he said.
He said he “understands” why Hunted wanted to testify publicly after spending the first three hours of the deposition.
Raskin also said “paranoid suspicion” was raised about Republicans’ focus on the more than two dozen Hunters business calls Joe was on.
Republicans, meanwhile, said the president’s son was not forthcoming.
Hunter Biden was “defiant and dishonest” in his statement, Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., said after leaving the room.
Democrats also denounced Republicans’ use of information from former FBI informant Alexander Smirnov in the investigation, as he was recently accused of ties to Russian intelligence services.
Smirnov “lied” about an alleged Biden family “bribery program” with Ukrainians and had “high-level contacts with Russian intelligence agents,” prosecutors said.
The fake bribery scheme, in which a top Ukrainian oil official paid $10 million to Joe and Hunter, was at the center of the Republican’s impeachment proceedings until a few days ago.
Last week, special counsel David Weiss accused Smirnov of lying about President Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden taking bribes from Ukrainian energy company Burisma.
If convicted, Smirnov faces up to 25 years in prison.
“Their primary source was cooperation with Russian intelligence services,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez told reporters on Wednesday.
“The fact that Republicans received that information, that the entire country received that information, and that they are still moving forward with their impeachment proceedings and investigations should be a red flag to this entire country.”
The progressives likened the impeachment inquiry to a “deep-sea fishing expedition.”
