The attorney for Shiloh, the daughter of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, has released a new statement about her “major decision” to drop her father’s last name.
The 18-year-old — who is one of the former couple’s six children — filed for a name change on her birthday this year, May 27, and it was made public with a legal notice in the Los Angeles Times.
Regarding the public name change, Shiloh’s attorney, Peter Levine, said in a statement on behalf of the teen that she “made an independent and important decision following painful events” and that she “simply followed legal process” when she published the information.
“Shiloh Jolie did not run an ‘advertisement’ announcing a name change, nor did she issue any press releases that were inaccurate,” Levine clarified, per People.
“As Shiloh’s attorney, I have to publish a legal notice, because California law requires that of anyone who wants to change their name. That legal notice was published in the Los Angeles Times, as required.”

In addition to Shiloh, the exes have sons Maddox (22), Pax (20), daughter Zahara (19) and identical twins Vivienne and Knox (16).
Zahara and Vivienne have also dropped Pitt from their names, but it is unclear whether Vivienne has legally implemented this change.
According to a recent report, Pitt has “virtually no contact” with his older children.
A month after Shiloh dropped his last name, a source revealed to People that Pitt’s relationship with his older children remains strained.
“He has virtually no contact with the adult children. His involvement with the younger children has been more limited in recent months due to his filming schedule,” the insider shared.
Angelina filed for divorce from the actor in 2019, after five years of marriage.
The relationship ended in conflict and it appears their children have taken sides.
The two filmmakers have been locked in a bitter battle over their French vineyard and home after the Tomb Raider star sold her $64 million stake to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler in 2021.

Later, they became embroiled in a heated conflict over non-disclosure agreements, which have become a major issue in their struggle.
Jolie is now asking Pitt to “end the strife” and drop the lawsuit against her so their family can “heal.”
However, sources told DailyMail.com that the Fight Club star has “no intention” of quitting, claiming that Jolie only filed the request after realizing her case wasn’t as strong as she previously thought.
“Brad is not going to drop this lawsuit — why would he? This was a very standard business dispute, but unfortunately Angelina has consistently brought in personal elements that are meant to be heard in divorce court,” a person close to the situation revealed.
