Alone Australia star Gina says she is ‘too fat’ to stand up properly after intentionally gaining 19kg to survive in the Tasmanian wilderness in the brutal survival competition.
A contestant on SBS’s brutal survival competition series Alone Australia has opened up about her shocking weight gain.
Bushcraft teacher Gina, 52, revealed in Wednesday’s two-part premiere that she gained a whopping 42lbs before filming the series to ensure she had enough body fat to sustain herself in the Tasmanian wilderness.
At one point, he joked that he could barely stand up properly because he was carrying so much extra weight.
‘I need to go to work,’ she said, before grunting as she tried to get up from a log she was sitting on.

Alone Australia’s Gina revealed that she gained a whopping 19kg prior to filming the series to ensure she had enough body fat to sustain herself in the Tasmanian wilderness.
At one point, she joked that she could barely stand up properly because she was carrying so much extra weight, declaring, ‘I’m so fat!’
The self-proclaimed nomad later revealed that she had intentionally packed on the pounds to support herself in the wild.
“That fat is going to be my survival strategy,” he explained.
“In a survival situation, fat becomes the most important nutritional component,” Gina continued.
“Without the fat, you can have as much protein and vegetables as you need and still starve.”
Further explaining her strategy for the game, Gina said that she was going to spend most of her calories building her shelter and then focus on resting and maintaining her strength. “I have enough food in my body that I don’t have to worry about starving anytime soon,” she said.

The 52-year-old is shown in 2019 before her big weight gain.
Gina isn’t the only contestant tipping the scales this season.
Michael Atkinson, known as Outback Mike on his YouTube channel where he shoots videos of his travels, ate more than 10,000 calories a day and gained 42 pounds to prepare for the show.
To increase his chances of staying in the Tasmanian outback for as long as possible, Mike decided to put on as much weight as possible.
“At first, I just ate a lot of fatty foods, but my weight gain plateaued at five kilograms above normal, so I went to a sports dietitian,” she said. Australia.

“I felt close to throwing up several times a day and my stomach was always stretched to the limit.”
Michael Atkinson, a contestant on a new SBS extreme survival series Alone Australia, also said he ate more than 10,000 calories a day and gained 19kg in preparation for the show.
The YouTube star looks fit and toned ahead of her extreme weight gain.
After gaining almost 20kg and feeling sick from eating so much, Mike said he was ready to face the hunger that the wild would bring.
Airing on SBS on March 29, Alone Australia has been heralded as one of the most authentic reality series on the small screen.
With no producers on the show, the contestants film themselves and receive no instructions.
Program participants fight to stay in nature as long as possible to win a grand prize of $250,000.
