Donald Trump’s lawyer insists nothing will stop the ex-president from running for a second term in the White House, even if he has to campaign from a prison cell.
Trump was found guilty Thursday of all 34 counts of falsifying business records for covering up the hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels in an attempt to influence the 2016 election.
His sentencing is scheduled for July 11. Legal experts do not expect the ex-president to receive a prison sentence, but each sentence carries a maximum of four years in prison.
In an interview with the BBC, Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba said that Trump will run for president even if he does not appeal or ends up in jail.
‘He is running for president. Nothing will change that,” Habba said.

When she kept him running even though he was locked up, she pointed to poll numbers and a wave of donations since he became a convicted felon.
“Once again I urge you to check the latest polls in this country of the people who live in this country,” she said. ‘The people who need him in this country. Because honestly, it’s more important than what anyone else thinks. Our people are speaking loudly.”
Trump’s campaign claims it raised more than $50 million in donations after the former president was convicted.

The latest polls show that there is an extremely tight race between Trump and President Biden. According to the Real Clear Politics average, Trump is up less than one point.
Trump was asked this weekend during a very friendly interview on Fox & Friends about the possibility of being sentenced to house arrest or even prison.
“I’m okay with it,” Trump responded.
‘I recently saw one of my lawyers on television saying: oh no, you don’t want to do that to the press. I said don’t beg for anything. It’s just the way it is,” he continued.
Trump also attacked Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and Judge Juan Merchan, who will determine his sentencing.

Typically, prison time is not recommended because of the types of charges Trump has been convicted of.
Legal experts note that he is considered a non-violent offender with criminal convictions. At age 77, Trump also has no prior convictions.
They expect that the ex-president will likely face probation or hefty fines.
Once the sentencing takes place, Trump’s legal team is expected to appeal.
