AI’s shocking views of how Europeans see Americans based on their state

An AI was asked to create images of what Europeans think the average American from different states looks like – and the results are shocking.

According to the technology, Europeans harbor racist and sexist stereotypes about Americans, and generally view people from the US as gluttonous, overweight consumers who only eat McDonalds.

That belief produced a series of startling images – only of women – that show how Americans are perceived.

According to the bot, only Florida and Texas have attractive women. The images presented to represent those states were of scantily clad blonde beauties.

The other states were summarized with photos of obese ladies hitting McDonalds, some with guns, and others in sports memorabilia.

Florida

Europeans seem to have a hyper-sexualized view of Florida residents

The image of how Europeans view people from Florida shows a sun-kissed, thin, conventionally attractive blonde woman standing confidently in a bright bikini.

This is one of the few flattering images the AI has produced, but it’s worth noting how sexualized this portrayal of the average Floridian is.

“I’m from Florida and I don’t look that good but I really appreciate the thought,” one user commented on the post.

California

According to the AI, Europeans view Californians as liberal and creative, as this image of a woman with purple hair wearing an LGBTQ pride shirt seems to suggest.

But despite California’s progressive reputation, this person is just as fat as many of the other images, sitting with a comically large McDonald’s burger, a pile of fries and two soft drinks.

Kansas

The AI believes that Europeans see people from Kansas through a fantastical lens.

In this image, a woman dressed as Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz sits in a McDonald’s stall and looks out the window as Superman flies by.

Both fictional stories contain references to the state.

Her dog (perhaps an allusion to Toto?) sits next to her and somehow resists the urge to chow down on a tray full of fries, a huge burger and what appears to be macaroni and cheese.

Massachusetts

The image created for Massachusetts suggests that Europeans stereotype them as angry, as this woman looking from yet another McDonald’s stand suggests.

Another classic American food chain makes a cameo in this image: Dunkin Donuts. This confirms the stereotype that people from this state are obsessed with the coffee and donut brand.

Maine

Europeans might think that Maine people are old and like to eat lobster – one of the state’s most famous exports.

In this image, a gray-haired woman wearing a yellow rain hat and raincoat is sitting in – you guessed it – a McDonald’s stand.

Her burger is noticeably smaller than the one in other images, but her tray is piled high with dozens of steamed lobsters.

“Mrs. Massachusetts is quite accurate [to be fair]’, reads a comment below the photo.

Oregon

New York

Europeans view New Yorkers as furiously angry and Yankee-obsessed

This state is known for its city skyline, and some of New York City’s most iconic structures have ended up in the background of this image, such as the Statue of Liberty.

But the real focus is on the furiously angry woman, depicted in a Yankees hat and jersey, who appears to be shouting at nothing as she prepares to devour seven McDonald’s burgers.

Pennsylvania

Europeans may think Pennsylvanians are voracious sports fans

Like New York, Europeans may think Pennsylvanians are voracious sports fans.

This AI image shows a woman wearing a Phillies jersey and hat.

She sits in front of a tray of five Philly cheesesteaks – a classic Philadelphia sandwich – with melted cheese all over her mouth.

Although McDonald’s does not sell cheesesteaks, she is pictured with a McDonald’s soft drink.

South Dakota

Europeans seem to view people from South Dakota as older and sad

This AI image suggests that Europeans see people from South Dakota as older and perhaps a little despondent – it shows a wrinkled woman dressed in traditional Native American clothing staring mournfully at her four McDonald’s burgers.

Texas

Europeans see Texans as armed, hyper-sexualized and conventionally attractive

Besides Florida, the only other image that doesn’t show an obese woman eating McDonald’s in a restaurant is Texas.

Instead, the AI believes that Europeans see Texans as armed and hyper-sexualized, as this image of a conventionally attractive blonde woman wearing a low-cut dress and carrying an assault rifle suggests.

“Being from Texas, I’d say this is about right,” one X user commented.

Virginia

Europeans might see Virginians through a colonial lens

Virginia is known for its colonial history, and it seems that this has influenced the way Europeans view people from America’s tenth state.

The AI created an image of a woman wearing a colonial-style dress depicting the American flag, with 18th-century curls and a bonnet. In the background, a stately mansion harkens back to early American history.

But McDonald’s hamburger and fries tray exudes modern flair.

Washington

Vermont

Europeans may view Vermonters as elderly and obsessed with maple syrup.

This state is known for its largest export product: maple syrup.

The AI created an image of a gray-haired woman in a fur hat and heavy sweater, gulping down a jug of maple syrup while sitting in front of three huge stacks of McDonald’s pancakes.

This suggests that Europeans may view Vermonters as elderly and syrup-obsessed.

West Virginia

Europeans must think that all the people in West Virginia are coal minors

The AI’s image of the average West Virginia person suggests that Europeans associate them with mining – an industry that has a long history in the state.

The woman pictured appears to have gone straight to McDonald’s after a day in the mines, as she sits in front of ten hamburgers, covered in coal dust and wearing a mine helmet.

Nevada

‘As a European, I don’t think they have included the ‘European positions’ anywhere. The AI is terribly sexist. We can’t do that [fathom] Whether it’s the size of the meal, the person or the bigotry,” said one social media user images posted by X user Huff.

Many users asked Huff how they were made, with one asking if they were “designed.” the prompts’ were used.

‘Just type’ take a picture of what Europeans think the average American citizen thinks [state] looks like it.’ If your result doesn’t look like this, you probably entered the prompt incorrectly, or you’re using an outdated AI program,” Huff responded.

Utah

Huff also acknowledged that all “Americans” are women.

“Check your sexism (and possibly your misogyny) first,” Huff shared.

“Second, women make up 50.8% of the US population, so statistically, asking AI to create an image of an ‘average’ citizen will result in an image of a woman every time.”
