Geelong were forced to beat fellow finalists Melbourne without their star man after Jeremy Cameron suffered a sickening injury on Thursday.
In contesting the ball, Cameron hit teammate Gary Rohan’s shoulder and was taken out cold before hitting the ground.
The former GWS star was immediately carried away and received a heartwarming ovation from the Cats faithful, who held their breath at his condition.
Play was suspended for 10 minutes while medical staff attended to Cameron before he was taken to hospital for further examination.
“It was a terrible collision and it was terrible to sit there watching and not know how he was,” said Fox Footy’s Sarah Jones.

Rohan was visibly upset by the incident and vice-captain Tom Stewart consoled his teammate.
“It was very creepy out here on the ground,” Brad Johnson told Fox Footy. “There was about five minutes of silence as physios and doctors worked on Jeremy to make sure he was okay.
“The Cats players also got around Gary Rohan after that and took some time to get going in that first quarter.”
