A couple who unknowingly planned to propose on the same day have shared the heartwarming moment they both got down on one knee.
Sally Morton, 39, from Suffolk, was planning to propose to her girlfriend Leanne Stewart, 35, from Edinburgh, a few days before Christmas.
But little did she know, Leanne had exactly the same plan and responded to her suggestion by getting down on one knee with her own ring box.
The beautiful video, taken atop Calton Hill in Edinburgh, shows Sally dropping to one knee to ask for her friend’s hand in marriage.
But as she gives a heartfelt speech, Leanne can be seen fumbling with a ring box in her own pocket, also ready to pop the question.
“At the beginning of the video, when Sally is kneeling behind my back, you can see me putting my hand in my pocket and holding the ring box, literally about to propose,” Leanne said.
“When I turned around, my first thought was that she had found the ring I bought and was therefore proposing.
‘But then I saw that her ring box was a completely different color to mine and I honestly couldn’t believe what was happening.’

Leanne, who works as an assistant manager at a swimming pool, added: ‘Sally gave a lovely little speech and asked me to marry her, after which I got down on one knee and asked her straight back.
“She beat me to the proposal by a second, but I’m very happy that I got the first ‘yes’ from the two of us.”
Both women had been planning their individual proposals for more than a year and had bought rings for each other less than a month apart.
Sally, a farm manager from Bury St Edmunds, said: “It was such a special moment.
‘When she got down on one knee, I remember initially thinking she was laughing, but when I saw her ring box I realized what was going on.
‘I was so happy that we were so on the same page, without even realizing it.’
She added: “I am coming as a package deal with two children.
‘Although I know Leanne has a great relationship with them, it felt very reassuring to know that she wanted exactly the same thing as me at the same time.’

In a full-circle moment, it was one of Sally’s 12-year-old daughters who filmed the proposal.
The couple met on TikTok in April 2021 and spent the first year and a half commuting between Suffolk and Edinburgh to see each other.
Eventually Leanne decided to close the distance and moved to a flat near Sally and her twin daughters.
Sticking with tradition, Leanne asked Sally’s father for his blessing.
She then told her own family about her intention to pop the question over the festive period in Edinburgh.
“Apparently there were a lot of phone calls behind the scenes between family members laughing at the crazy coincidences of the situation,” Leanne said.
While Leanne initially planned to get down on one knee in front of Edinburgh Castle, Sally switched their plans to take a walk to Calton Hill.
Leanne was willing to adjust her proposal plans, saying: “I thought if we got there and the moment felt right then I would do it, but of course I had no idea what Sally was planning.”
But unbeknownst to Leanne, Sally had already arranged for a photographer to be waiting at the top of the hill to document the proposal.
The brides-to-be have already hired a wedding planner to help them get married in the fall of this year.
