The Voice Australia judge Adam Lambert has revealed what he really thinks about the reality show ahead of the season 13 premiere.
The 42-year-old Grammy Award-winning singer has joined the cast of the singing show, alongside LeAnn Rimes, 41, Kate Miller Heidke, 42, and Guy Sebastian, 42.
Adam, LeAnn and Kate have replaced outgoing judges Rita Ora, Jessica Mauboy and Jason Derulo for the 2024 season.
Speaking with Perth nowhe admitted that he sometimes gets “flashbacks” to his time as a contestant on the 2009 season of American Idol, but that it was the different formats of the two shows that drew him Down Under.
“The format is a little different than American Idol, which I was on, but I love that we get to mentor people and put a team together,” he told the publication.
“I think that’s what drew me here in the first place: the opportunity to help, to give others useful criticism and encouragement… it’s an exciting creative process.”
Adam also admitted that he is ‘overwhelmed’ by the sheer talent on display in the upcoming season.
“It’s exceeded every expectation I had. The talent is really, really amazing,” Adam said.
The Voice Australia judge Adam Lambert has revealed what he really thinks about the long-running reality singing show, ahead of the season 13 premiere
“There are different styles of singers and there’s something for everyone. I know that sounds like a general story, but it is. We have singers who sing contemporary pop songs, country and soul.”
After finishing second on the 2009 season of American Idol, Adam embarked on a successful solo career with his debut album For Your Entertainment, which peaked at number three on the Billboard chart.
In 2011, he succeeded Freddie Mercury as frontman of the British rock band Queen.
“The format is a little different than American Idol, which I was on, but I love that we get to mentor people and put a team together,” he said.
Yahoo Lifestyle recently claimed that the reason for the change in judges for The Voice Australia 2024 was the star’s salary, and that producers wanted to keep costs down.
“The decision was made last year and the casting team had been looking for a while,” an industry insider told the publication.
The insider added that salary increases are needed to keep returning stars on the show and that the price tag for the previous batch was “too expensive.”
‘The company argument was that Jessica, Rita and Jason were all too busy, but I don’t think anyone is too busy to collect these kinds of salaries.
“It definitely had to do with keeping costs down.”
While previous coaches were praised for their on-screen chemistry and diversity, the insider added that Channel Seven executives were “nervous” about the new line-up.
They claimed that the network was concerned when Keith Urban left the show in 2022. The success of the show, they said, proved that they had found the right replacement.
“Jason was a big risk in 2023 and Channel Seven knew that if he did do the show, his management would ask for a much higher fee to come back this year, which of course ended up being too expensive,” the source told the publication.
