New York Yankees star Aaron Judge was ejected for the first time in his career in front of his home crowd on Saturday afternoon.

Judge had a quick turnaround when he struck out and made his displeasure known in the bottom of the seventh.

Home plate umpire Ryan Blankley threw the Yankee captain on his way back to the dugout before Judge returned to confront the umpire.

The heated but still measured exchange prompted Yankees manager Aaron Boone to jump out of the dugout to defend Judge and briefly stop him from Blankley.

‘[I’m] very surprised,” the judge said when asked about the deportation. “Especially in a 5-3 game, late in the game, bat-on 3-2 count. You know, walk away a little, say my peace. I’ve said a lot of the worst things.’

Despite losing their captain, the Bronx Bombers still earned a 3-5 victory at Yankee Stadium.

The righty is no stranger to low shots called against his favor, although Saturday’s case stemmed from a 3-2 fastball that appeared to clip outside the edge of the zone. Still, the 6-foot-4 slugger rarely shows his frustration with umpires.

In his first two at-bats on Saturday, Judge had a single and an RBI double, scoring both times.

When asked if the tension between him and the referee was high throughout the match, Judge replied: ‘No. I have a lot of respect for Ryan and what he does.”

“I know their job is hard,” he continued. ‘I have always supported them, because it is difficult there. So for it to happen this way, I think that’s what I’m most angry about. Especially late in the game.”

The win helped the Yankees to a 22-13 record as they sit second in the American League East after splitting their last ten games at 5-5.

On the other hand, the Tigers fell to 18-15 and were fourth in the American League Central.
