Kyren Wilson thanks his hypnotherapist after reaching a second Crucible final with victory over out-of-sorts David Gilbert

  • Wilson will face either Jak Jones or 2015 champion Stuart Bingham in the final
  • The 32-year-old lost the 2020 showpiece 18-8 to Ronnie O’Sullivan

Well-rested Kyren Wilson thanked his hypnotherapist after reaching a second Crucible final with a 17-11 win over out-of-sort David Gilbert.

Wilson, 32, lost the 2020 showpiece 18-8 to Ronnie O’Sullivan, but his preparation that year was far from ideal.

After a late win over Anthony McGill in the semi-finals, he barely slept and was woken by a fire alarm at 6am.

But this year he hasn’t had any more problems.

“I’ve had a lot of people help me mentally with a few things, as well as a hypnotherapist called Chris O’Connor,” he said.

Kyren Wilson celebrates beating David Gilbert to reach a second World Cup final

‘We started just before the World Cup and he really helped me sleep.

“He basically just knocked me out. I got eight and a half hours of sleep last night, so God help me when I get home and have to deal with the kids!’

Wilson led 14–10 on the night and after Gilbert took the opening frame he made numerous errors, bagging the three frames he needed to claim victory.

He punched the air in the direction of his family after potting the decisive blue.

World number 12 Wilson will face Jak Jones or 2015 champion Stuart Bingham in the final, which starts this afternoon and ends tomorrow.
