Emily Pearl, 25, from London, launched The Social Manager in January 2021 after losing her ‘dream’ job in talent management during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Just six months later, his startup had grown into a successful six-figure business with a team of five.

Now, Emily claims she earns eight times her previous salary of £20,000 by providing valuable tools to businesses, brands and creators and acting as a social media coach, builder and mentor.

“In February 2020 I landed my ‘dream job’ in talent management,” Emily said.

“On reflection, I only went into talent management as it was the only job that would scratch my inner artist itch.

“I was suspended until September 2020 and then heartbreakingly fired.

“I had just moved into my first property and being unemployed was not an option.

‘I turned to spirituality and started to really work on myself. I kept seeing signs to start a career in social media and thought what an amazing thing to be able to be the person helping small and growing businesses excel online.

“In fact, I had my first and only session with a psychic early in my business where she said, ‘I don’t know how you’re going to get there, but I know that within the next year you’re going to see growth you didn’t even know was possible.’

“He also told me that I would get to ten thousand followers much faster than most and a month later that is exactly what happened.

‘I am HUGLEY in journaling, visualization and meditation. I really like affirmations and talking to myself in the most loving way possible.

Then, in October 2022, he co-founded Merge The Agency, a 360 digital agency specializing in social media marketing and management (celebrating his business success)

I have also gotten rid of many toxic people in my life over the past two years and do my best to protect my peace in every situation.

‘My inner circle is very small and I only surround myself with positive and inspiring people.

‘One of the biggest life lessons for me has been: surround yourself with negative people, take the negativity in, surround yourself with amazing people and just watch your life change.

“I spent everything I had on courses, mentors and masterclasses to teach me as much as possible about the industry and I thought, the only way I’m doing this is to go all out.”

He launched The Social Manager in January 2021 after losing his “dream” job in talent management during the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘In January 2021 my business was born. Within six months, I was fully booked and hired a team of four.

‘I truly believe that there are certain people in this world who are simply not meant to work for anyone but themselves, and one of them is me.

‘I have unlimited earnings, unlimited vacation days, and the ability to help the most incredible number of people and businesses. Honestly, it still sounds like a dream to me, but somehow it’s my reality.

“In fact, it seems like I’m talking about someone else every time I think about this, but this year I’m on track to earn eight times my previous salary.”

Emily has built a successful business from scratch by speaking up, working hard, and believing in herself.

Then, in October 2022, he co-founded Merge The Agency, a 360 digital agency specializing in social media marketing and management.

It helps small businesses grow by offering everything from social media management to content creation and web design.

She also runs a coaching business, Emily Pearl Coaching, which offers one-on-one business and mindset coaching, an 8-week intensive program, and is in the process of creating an online course.

He has traveled all over Europe and South America, has his own house in an expensive part of London and has just bought the car of his dreams, a Jeep Wrangler.

Emily hopes to travel more around the world now thanks to the incredible success of her online business.

Emily’s journey has not been without its challenges. One of her early team members greatly disappointed her, something that almost cost him her business, and she had to face cruel comments about her body and her personality.

But she refuses to let these setbacks hold her back and is instead completely focused on becoming the best version of herself and continuing to grow personally and professionally.

Despite her obvious and notable successes, Emily refuses to show only the highlights of running a business.

Instead, he has been exceptionally honest and transparent about the difficulties he has faced.

Emily was suspended until September 2020 and then sadly she was fired from her talent management job.

Emily celebrated reaching 10,000 followers on her social media account with balloons and a glass of wine.

Emily said: “I’ve had my fair share of bumps in the last two years, I’m a very confident person and this whole process has taught me a lot.”

‘Because of how fast I grew, it led me to need a great team quickly. I put a lot of trust in my first team members and sadly they let me down hugely.

“Having bad months is scary when you’re self-employed and there have been periods where I could barely pay my bills.

“I lost family members and our house was broken into, but I had to keep working or my business would fail.

“But categorically, the hardest hurdle for me is the number of people I’ve lost in the process. The best friends I once thought would be my bridesmaids are now just ‘someone I see on a night out’, and the family members I was once close to have not shown any support.

Since then, Emily has been invited to speak at marketing and social media events thanks to the success of her business.

Looking forward, Emily hopes to speak at more events, speak on more podcasts, and hopefully start her own.

‘Balance is almost impossible in the first few years of business, but if anything, it really shows me who’s really there.

Emily’s Instagram handle now has over 60k followers. And with that has come intense trolling.

“When you experience growth, it comes with pros and cons, one of which is trolling,” Emily said.

“I wasn’t surprised by the ‘daddy’s money’ comments and ‘get a real job’ messages, but what really surprised me was how many women criticized me online.”

“There have been numerous times where I have had grown women (with children) debate my comments about my looks or a slut shame me for wearing a vest.

Emily’s journey has not been without its challenges. She was greatly disappointed by one of her early team members, something that almost cost him her business, and she has had to deal with cruel comments about her body and her personality.

“I have pretty thick skin and I actually use those comments to fuel myself even more.

“Plus, feedback equals engagement, so it’s really just helping my business even more.”

Emily has refused to let any of this negativity hold her back and encourages others to maintain a positive mindset in the face of adversity.

Emily said: ‘The demonstration works. The visualization works. And patience is a virtue, you want to make mistakes at the beginning to learn faster.

‘Our generation seems to have this eternal need for instant success. I was one of those people. But companies will go through ups and downs.

‘Don’t be afraid to ask for help. If you are able to achieve your business dreams on your own, then you are not dreaming big enough.

“You can never stop learning, so invest in that business coach, buy that course, and talk to that family member who has ten times the life experience of you.”

Emily also has no plans to slow down anytime soon.

“I can’t reveal everything yet, but the short-term goals are to have an office and a small team for the agency this year,” Emily said.

‘For my personal plans, I would love to be invited to speak at more events, speak on more podcasts, and hopefully start my own.

“I’m still in the early stages of my career and I want to enjoy every second of it.”
