Boston Satanic Temple is bombed with explosives in ‘heinous act of attempted terrorism’ – as FBI launches urgent investigation

Local and federal investigators are investigating a possible bombing at a satanic temple in the town of Salem, Massachusetts.

Police said an unknown person threw an explosive device at the building’s porch around 4:15 a.m. Monday.

It took almost twelve hours for someone to finally discover the damage, as no one was in the building at the time.

Lucien Greaves, co-founder and spokesperson for the temple, claims this was an act of terror.

“It cannot be overstated that this was definitely a heinous attempt at terrorism and people could have been hurt,” he said.

“We are confident that they will locate the perpetrator quickly,” he said WHDH.

In an interview with the Boston spherehe claimed that he had actually given a tour of the building to a couple before the explosive was discovered.

“We came in from the back and did the whole tour, and all the while on the foredeck, I think, was this bomb,” Greaves said.

State bomb technicians and K9s searched the building to ensure the bomb could do no more damage and that there were no other explosives on the premises, according to the release. CBS Boston.

Authorities declared the investigation complete around 7:15 p.m. and said the threat was under control.

The temple has faced multiple threats in the past two years, including a Michigan man arrested in January for a planned attack and an alleged arson incident in 2022.

The Satanic Temple opened in 2016 in the notoriously creepy city, promising to “fight more fervently against a perceived infringement of Christian values ​​on American politics” than worshiping Satan.

It is not associated with the 1960s Church of Satan, founded by Anton LeVay.

It’s mission, their website claimsis: “To encourage goodwill and empathy, reject tyrannical authority, advocate practical common sense, oppose injustice, and engage in noble pursuits.”

“We find real power in the mythology of Satan, but from a perspective in which Satan is the ultimate rebel against tyranny,” Greaves said on Monday.

An LGBTQ+ pride flag is prominently displayed on the same porch where the explosive was thrown.

The new headquarters are housed in a Victorian-style house less than a mile from Gallows Hill, the site where villagers executed more than a dozen people suspected of witchcraft.

“The history of Salem is also part of the history of Satanism,” the organization’s spokesperson Greaves told DailyMail.com at the opening.

In 2019, Satanic Temple was granted Section 501(c) tax-exempt status, putting it in the same category as major religions such as Catholicism and organizations such as the Salvation Army.

The recognition means the temple, which has 16 chapters in the U.S. and thousands of followers around the world, can apply for certain federal grants.
