The festive image showed the King and Queen, 51, in full regalia, alongside the couple’s elegantly dressed four children: Crown Prince Christian, 18, Princess Isabella, 16, and twins Prince Vincent and Princess Josephine, 13.
The scandal-laden prince took over the crown on January 14, 2024, and became king of Denmark, succeeding his 83-year-old mother’s phenomenal five-decade reign.

Margrethe’s decision to leave the throne in honor of her eldest son surprised many as it comes in the middle of a controversial year for the royal family, which has been plagued by stripped titles and salacious rumors.

“The taxi arrived and I said ‘Oh, okay’ at the last minute and just got in.”
The interview dates from 2004, but has recently been republished.
