RHOA alum Cynthia Bailey’s ex-husband Peter Thomas speaks out after DUI arrest, claims he is ‘mindful’ of offense after his ‘little brother was killed by drunk driver’

Peter Thomas spoke out after he was arrested in Atlanta on Wednesday for driving under the influence.

The ex-husband of Real Housewives of Atlanta star Cynthia Bailey took his Instagram Friday to tell his side of the story in a video recorded while he was on a flight.

Although he did not appear to outright deny driving under the influence, he stated that he refused to take a breathalyzer test during the incident and was subsequently hospitalized due to his high blood pressure.

The 63-year-old reality star — who was arrested in 2019 for allegedly writing fraudulent checks — also said he is “aware” of such a violation, having lost a family member to a drunk-driving accident in the past .

“In all the years and all the locations I’ve been in this game, I’ve never been arrested for drunk driving,” he explained in the clip. “I’m aware of that… I have a little brother who was killed by a drunk driver, so I’m very aware of that.”

Thomas is facing multiple charges, including driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a license, no proof of insurance and driving with an expired license, according to records obtained by AND.

In the Instagram confessional, Thomas claims he was told to turn himself in while in the hospital to avoid a warrant for his arrest.

“I turned myself in and was rescued within three hours, so thank you, Cobb County, you were hospitable,” he added.

He reassured fans that he is “not locked up at the moment.”

As part of his release conditions, Thomas must abstain from alcohol, marijuana and other cannabis products or drugs.

He must also pass random alcohol and drug tests and is prohibited from possessing firearms.

In addition, Thomas is obliged to give the court a notice period of seven days in the event of a change of residence.

Thomas was previously arrested at Miami Airport on suspicion of writing a counterfeit check for $4,000 in March 2019.

After the financial dispute was resolved, the Sheriff’s Office dropped the case, paving the way for Thomas’ release. After being released in March, he denied the claims.

Thomas exchanged vows with Bailey during a 2010 ceremony that was featured on the Bravo show’s third season.

Thomas and Bailey separated in 2016 after three years of marriage and their divorce was formalized in 2017.
