MORE birthday blues for Biden as polls show 81-year-old losing by seven to Trump and facing an 11-point LANDSLIDE defeat to a ‘generic’ Republican – as Democrat senators call for an end to internal ‘hand wringing and eyeball rolling’ over 2024

The birthday blues continued for President Joe Biden on Tuesday, as new polling data showed him losing to Donald Trump by seven points and to a generic Republican candidate by a whopping 11 points.

a NBC News poll shows that American voters would prefer to have another Republican than Biden in the Oval Office, with the president losing by double digits to an unnamed contender 48% to 37%.

Meanwhile, a Messenger/Harris Survey shows Trump, who is in control of the Republican Party’s presidential nomination, easily beating Biden, 47% to 40%.

Biden, who turned 81 on Monday, continues to face questions about his age – he is the oldest US president in history – and his ability to keep up with the rigors of the presidency. However, some Democrats are now defending him, saying it’s time for the party to stop hand-wringing and support the president.

But polling data still shows voters are concerned about their choices in next year’s election, with many pollsters saying they would like another option besides Biden or Trump.

In the Messenger poll, a majority of voters believe that Biden – 67% – and Trump – 55% – should not run for a second term.

However, only 25% of Republicans said that of Trump, while 40% of Democrats said that of Biden.

Additionally, the NBC News poll found Trump losing to a general Democratic candidate by 6 points – 46% to 40% – albeit a smaller margin than Biden’s.

And in the NBC News poll, Trump only beats Biden by 2 points in a head-to-head matchup: 46% to 44%.

But even as some prominent Democrats β€” such as former Obama strategist David Axelrod β€” express concerns about Biden, others are defending the president.

‘I don’t see any prospects for an alternative at the moment. I think Joe Biden is in very good mental shape. I was with him for two hours on Wednesday evening. He is sharp, knowledgeable and exceptionally discreet and insightful in his commentary on highly sensitive policy areas such as Israel and domestic challenges,” Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut told The Hill newspaper.

β€œHe will beat Donald Trump if Democrats get behind him and stop the hand-wringing and eye-rolling,” he said.

And Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow of Michigan told Democrats to stop “hand-wringing” and support the president.

β€œTo all my fellow Democrats: STOP!! We need to stop wringing our hands over the experts and the polls! Tuesday proved it! That was the poll that counted and voters voted decisively for Democrats and our values,” she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Many Democrats, including Biden himself, pointed to the election results earlier this month β€” winning the abortion battle in Ohio, Governor Beshear’s victory in Kentucky and Democrats’ legislative victories in Virginia β€” as a good sign for their party.

β€œSince I came off the sidelines to take on Donald Trump, we haven’t stopped winning and he hasn’t stopped losing,” Biden told donors at a fundraiser in San Francisco last week.

β€œRemember when Trump told us he was going to win so much that we were going to get tired of winning,” he said, adding, β€œOh man, I shouldn’t be doing it.”

β€œLet me tell you one thing that is true. We are tired of Trump. The truth is, the man can’t get tired of losing,” Biden said as the crowd cheered.

But others continue to voice their concerns.

Former Obama adviser David Axelrod warned this weekend that Biden has only a 50-50 chance of winning re-election and that he should not count on Donald Trump to help him win.

Axelrod, who has been critical of Biden’s age and decision to seek a second term, shared this Maureen Dowd of the New York Times that Hillary Clinton wrongly believed that Trump, as the Republican candidate, would win her the election and that Biden should not make the same mistake.

β€œI think he has a 50-50 shot here, but no better than that, maybe a little worse,” Axelrod said. ‘He thinks he can cheat nature here and that is really risky. They have a real problem if they count on Trump to win for them. I remember Hillary doing that too.”

Axelrod and other Democrats warned – in the wake of the election numbers – about Biden’s re-election chances.

But White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Monday that it is Biden’s experience β€” more than 50 years in government β€” that counts.

β€œThere is no alarm going on behind the scenes and I’m certainly not going to comment on anyone who has something to say,” she said during her daily press conference.

β€œWhat I can say is how we see this, what our perspective is. Our perspective is that it’s not about age, it’s about the president’s experience.”
