Rio Ferdinand lists players Man Utd should sell saying midfielder must have ‘hard conversations’

Rio Ferdinand lists FOUR players he thinks Erik ten Hag should sell this summer, claiming Scott McTominay will have to have ‘hard talks with Man Untied’ after struggling to play

  • Rio Ferdinand has named four players he thinks Manchester United should sell
  • But with the club cash constrained, Erik ten Hag may have to sell to raise money
  • Ferdinand believes Scott McTominay should have “hard talks with the club”.

Rio Ferdinand has listed the four players Erik ten Hag should sell this summer to help Man United raise capital to compete in the transfer window.

While the club is currently in the middle of a takeover, the Dutchman recently admitted he was ‘in the dark’ about how much he could spend, with Harry Kane and, in what would be a rather sensational move, Neymar being linked to join become of the club.

But with the 53-year-old admitting he needs to sign and sign quality players to compete with Arsenal and Man City at the top of the table, Ten Hag may have to try and raise that money himself through different players.

And Ferdinand has expressed his opinion on who should leave the club, claiming that Scott McTominay, who made 10 starts in 24 league games this season, will have to have “tough talks with the club about his future” and lack playing time.

“Scott McTominay hasn’t played much football, not as much as he would like,” Ferdinand told the club Atmosphere with Five Youtube Channel.

“If I were him as a young player I would probably assess that situation and have some hard talks with the club [asking] do you see me as part of it or not.

“If I’m that far down the pecking order I’d start looking and I don’t think he’ll have a problem finding a club. He is a very good footballer and he can add a lot of value.’

The former United central defender then admitted that Harry Maguire, who joined Leicester for £80 million in 2019, would also have to leave.

The 30-year-old, who has struggled for playing time this season, starting in just eight of the 16 Premier League games he has played in, will become a free agent in 2025 after signing a six-year contract when he joined the club.

Ferdinand also suggested that Anthony Elanga should look elsewhere as well, as the 21-year-old has not appeared since early March.

Harry Maguire needs to look at a new option for himself. Unless he says he likes being third or fourth choice. Elanga maybe [is another]”He won’t get a chance,” said Ferdinand.

He also suggested selling Anthony Martial as his injury woes are a problem for United.

Martial has proven that he cannot stay fit. I think if you get rid of those four, you’re left with £100 million. Elanga is not getting the football he deserves.

“He did well when he came in and still doesn’t stand a chance. Big players for him, but he wants to play football in the first team.’

Meanwhile, Mail Sport reported earlier today that David de Gea has ‘agreed’ a new deal with the club after speculation over his future following an inconsistent season that saw him face criticism over his distribution.

Dean Henderson also leaves for Norwich in the summer, which could again contribute to Ten Hag’s transfer reserves.
