San Francisco 49ers fans are gearing up for a hot Sunday – with temperatures expected to reach the highest levels in history at Levi’s Stadium against the Arizona Cardinals.
A meteorologist told SFGate.Com that there is a “near certainty” the game will be played in weather above 88 degrees when it kicks off at 1:05 p.m. local time — breaking the record of 87 degrees set when the 49ers faced the Carolina Panthers in 2019 stood.
The Bay Area has been experiencing a heat wave this week with temperatures over 100 degrees. Although the weather forecast for Sunday shows a drop in temperatures, fans are still expecting a grueling afternoon in Santa Clara.
“92 in that stadium is unbelievably hot,” one fan wrote in response to the news on Reddit. “And there’s no escaping the sun on the east side of Levi’s.”
Another said: ‘I’ve been out for about 30 minutes today and it’s on suicide watch.

The showdown with the Arizona Cardinals could be the hottest game ever at Levi’s Stadium
“I have no idea how people do this in places like Miami with the humidity. It doesn’t even seem possible.’
But a more optimistic opinion from another supporter said: ‘As long as it doesn’t rain, Brock (Purdy) will come out again and make it worth watching for everyone.’
The 49ers enter Sunday’s game 2-2 on the season and star man Christian McCaffrey appears to be out indefinitely with tendonitis in both legs.
Last week, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said McCaffrey could return in November, saying, “It appeared the treatment went well, and there’s a chance he could run on hard ground – grass, actually – this week, which would be a step. forward.
“For those concerned about McCaffrey not playing at all this year, my understanding is that the 49ers are not rushing him, but they expect him back at least in early November.”
It would mean McCaffrey will miss the Super Bowl rematch against Kansas City Chiefs on October 20.
