Zoom has announced the open beta of AI-powered name tags for Zoom Rooms, which Zoom Rooms says will make it easier for virtual attendees to identify fellow attendees.
With the launch of digital name badges, the video conferencing company hopes to address concerns about inclusivity surrounding modern hybrid work situations by creating a sense of connectivity.
The system is based on an automatic recognition system that you can choose yourself and that is driven by artificial intelligence. However, users who are concerned about their privacy in the digital solution can also choose to manually add their own name tags.
With this option, Zoom hopes to eliminate the awkward moments when participants don’t know each other’s names by tagging people even when they only appear in one video feed, such as through a single camera in a shared office space.
The California-based software maker said: “This innovation is especially useful when teams are meeting for the first time or when meetings involve external parties, as it helps participants quickly connect and collaborate.”
An administrator enables smart name tags, but users must then register and consent to the feature.
The introduction of smart business cards comes as an overwhelming majority (95%) of business leaders say their organisation has become more agile in the past two years, with a further four in five (82%) planning to increase agility in the next two years.
Zoom Rooms has over two million licenses. Smart tags are likely to have a big impact, even if they go largely unnoticed.
