Zoom has launched a new video functionality designed to make video conferencing less tiring, or better yet, eliminate the need for some video calls altogether.
Zoop Clips, available worldwide, allows users to record, edit and share short video messages with colleagues and, even better, with customers and contacts outside their organization.
The company hopes this will help teams reduce the number of meetings they participate in, reducing lost time and improving employee efficiency.
Zoom clips
Once the presenter has created their video, they can adjust the sharing settings to ensure it reaches the right people in the right time frame. For the creator, the videos remain visible in a centralized content management system within the regular Zoom interface under a new tab called ‘Clips’.
The platform also has analytics built into its clips, allowing the presenter to verify that all intended recipients viewed the video.
Colleagues can interact with the video by reacting or commenting, which can further reduce the need to jump on a call to clarify something.
Like regular Zoom calls, Clips supports virtual backgrounds and background noise reduction technology.
Zoom Group Product Manager John Beckmann said: “With Zoom Clips, colleagues have a tool that can save them valuable time by communicating clearly across time zones, allowing them to store and manage their clips in a central place, and helping them stay engaged become asynchronous with their teammates.”
There are two versions of Zoom Clips: Zoom One customers get access to Clips Plus as part of their subscription at no additional cost, and other Zoom account holders, including those who subscribe to Zoom One Basic, get access to Clips Basic.
Clips Basic imposes a limit of two minutes per video and a maximum of five video recordings. Starting in December, a $6.99 per month add-on to Clips Plus will be available to these customers.
