It may soon be harder than ever to escape Zoom after reports that the company is working on a range of new software products.
The information (opens in new tab) has reported that the video conferencing giant is working on an email service and calendar app as it looks set to expand and establish itself as a software giant.
The so-called Zmail and Zcal offering has reportedly been in development for about two years and could be launched in the coming weeks, giving the company a potentially huge new opportunity for customers.
Zoom Email
The move would aim to put Zoom on a par with Microsoft and Google, which make and operate its closest rivals in video calling.
The company is hosting its Zoomtopia conference in November, where the new services could very well be unveiled.
Launching a calendar app seems like a pretty simple step for Zoom, which could combine a scheduling and scheduling service for its apps. However, email can prove to be a trickier proposition, with Gmail and Outlook dominating much of the business market.
After a huge surge in popularity during the pandemic, many industry observers expected Zoom would struggle as employees returned to the office.
However, the company has continued to perform well in recent months, despite increased competition from the likes of Microsoft Teams and Google Meet.
To be most recent financial results (opens in new tab) showed revenue of $1.1 billion for the second quarter of 2023, an increase of 8%, with the number of customers paying more than $100,000 for subscriptions increasing 37% year-over-year.
The company also recently overhauled its messaging app in an effort to keep up with Slack and Microsoft Teams.
Renamed Zoom Teams Chat will include features such as text chat during meetings for video calls, streamlined meeting setup, a new reminder feature, Progressive Web App support, and better third-party app integration.
