Zooey Deschanel and Jonathan Scott still haven’t ‘figured out’ wedding plans after being engaged 16 months

Zooey Deschanel and fiancé Jonathan Scott have yet to ‘figure out’ their wedding plans after getting engaged 16 months earlier in August 2023.

The New Girl actress, 44, said ‘I do’ after the Property Brothers star, 46, popped the big question at Edinburgh Castle – but the couple have been too busy to sit down and make concrete plans for their upcoming nuptials .

While I recently spoke with PeopleScott jokingly admitted, “I can guarantee you we did absolutely 0% more work.”

‘We’ve just been through a lot of things. Maybe that’s my New Year’s resolution; we have to work out this wedding again.’

However, the couple – who first crossed paths in 2019 – do have some ideas about what the special day could possibly look like.

Last year, in June 2024, Jonathan shared that both he and Deschanel wanted to have a “kicka** party” with their loved ones.

During an interview with We weekly The TV personality said at the time: ‘The ceremony and the pomp and circumstance, we’ll get that out of the way, and then it’s the reception. It’s going to be great.’

He also shared that they “haven’t really” picked a date for the wedding, but said, “We’re working on it and I think our goal is to keep it intimate.”

Scott – who has a twin brother Drew – also reflected that if he had met Zooey years earlier, their relationship might not have worked out.

‘Zooey and I were very different people. I mean, we’ve both been married before, but even when we were younger, you’re looking for different things, and who knows what we were looking for back then?’

A few months earlier, in November, Jonathan was joined in a conversation by his brother Drew Collider about their series Don’t Hate Your House With The Property Brothers.

At one point the subject of his upcoming wedding came up and Jonathan humorously said of himself and Zooey, “We’re useless.”

‘No, we don’t have any updates. We haven’t done one yet. Maybe that should be my New Year’s resolution. We have to find out.’

Drew interjected, adding, “I’m not allowed to make any vacation plans until they figure that out because I guarantee that if I say, ‘Okay, I’m finally going to book this vacation,’ John will be too.” like, “That’s the date.”‘

Deschanel first met Jonathan in August 2019 while filming an episode of Carpool Karaoke.

Just a few months later, the couple went Instagram official with their budding romance.

In November of that year, the 500 Days Of Summer actress and the TV personality made their red carpet debut while attending the Critic’s Choice Documentary Awards together.

The couple then took the next big step in their relationship by getting engaged when Jonathan popped the big question during a family trip to Scotland in August 2023.

That month, she took to her main Instagram page to show off the beautiful ring as she announced the big news to her fans and followers.

‘Forever starts now!!!’ Deschanel wrote excitedly in the caption and received congratulations in the comments section from other celebrities and social media users.

Shortly before their engagement, the couple celebrated their fourth anniversary and the Elf actress shared an adorable photo of the two as they stood close to each other and flashed a big smile at the camera.

During an interview with Page sixScott revealed he became a ‘blubbering mess’ during the proposal in Edinburgh.

He also said Zooey’s children – Elsie, nine, and Charlie, seven – had the opportunity to help.

Deschanel shares her children with ex-husband Jacob Pechenik. They were married from 2015 until their divorce in 2019. Their divorce was finalized the following year.

‘We were on a family outing with the kids and I had everything planned in advance, for the tour and everything. And at the end we cleared the castle,” Jonathan recalls.

‘We were at Edinburgh Castle and we were the last people on the grounds. I set it up so they said, “Oh, there’s a bagpipe band playing. Do you want to go listen?” Yes, great.’

He added: ‘We went to this beautiful cliff overlooking the city, and this bagpipe band is playing.’

“And then suddenly a guitar stepped forward and Neil Young started playing our song, Harvest Moon.”

‘And [Zooey]It’s like, “Wait, what?” And then the kids put up a banner that said, “Will you marry me?” the HGTV star revealed to the outlet.

He continued: ‘She cried and said yes. And I’m a blubbering mess. Like the wedding is going to be a disaster because I can’t get through it.’

Scott has also previously opened up about co-parenting Zooey’s children with her ex, Jacob Pechenik.

During an earlier interview with Today‘, he said: ‘I always knew I would be a great father – former clown, magician, I can build things – and it was incredible.’

“You see your life transform, your priorities become those of your children, and when they have a performance they’re doing at school, or working on some of their homework, or whatever it may be, it’s a joy… ‘

Zooey was also previously married to Death Cab for Cutie singer Ben Gibbard from 2009 to 2012.

Jonathan was married once to Kelsy Ully from 2007 until their divorce in 2013.

Although Scott and Deschanel have yet to make wedding plans, the lovebirds have had a busy schedule and have also appeared at recent events.

Last month in December, the pair put on stylish displays as they hit the red carpet at the Hollywood premiere of A Complete Unknown.
