Zoe Saldana sobs after winning her first Golden Globe Award in plunging YSL gown

Zoe Saldaña cried tears of joy as she won her first Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture (Musical/Comedy) at the 82nd ceremony, held Sunday at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills.

The 46-year-old action star – best known for blockbuster franchises Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy and Star Trek – was finally recognized for her serious dramatic work as attorney Rita Moro Castro, the lawyer for a transgender Mexican cartel leader in Emilia Pérez.

‘I have dyslexia and I often forget when I’m really anxious. I am filled with adrenaline, but my heart is full of gratitude,” Zoe (born Zoë Yadira Saldaña Nazario) began her emotional two minute speech.

“Thank you to the Golden Globes for celebrating our film and honoring the women of Emilia Pérez. Thank you so much!’

Saldaña managed to win over her own castmate Selena Gomez, as well as Wicked’s Ariana Grande, The Brutalist’s Felicity Jones, The Substance’s Margaret Qualley and Conclave’s Isabella Rossellini, whom she called “magic.”

“Selena, I’m sharing this with you,” the half-Dominican, half-Puerto Rican triple threat boomed onto the stage.

“I know it’s a competition, but all I’ve seen is us standing up for each other and celebrating each other, it’s just so beautiful.”

Zoe also mentioned her castmate Karla Sofía Gascón, who had just lost the Best Actress trophy to The Substance star Demi Moore: “Nobody but you could have played Emilia Pérez. Nobody. Reina (queen)!’

After thanking the cast and crew, Saldaña rushed to thank those closest to her as she was played out: “My mother [Asalia] is here! My sisters, my husband and my sons – I love you. I love you. You are everything, thank you!’

And although the Lioness producer-star’s husband of 11 years – The Absence of Eden filmmaker Marco Perego Saldaña – wasn’t there, he proudly reposted her speech via Instastory.

Zoe’s biggest song in Netflix’s Spanish-language musical – El Mal – ultimately won best original song at the Globes.

Saldaña took the stage for the second time to support composers Camille and Clément Ducol as they received the trophy. She told her, “Zoe, you just shook the house and shook our souls.”

The former ballerina took to the stage for the third time with the rest of the cast and crew when Emilia Pérez was named best film (musical/comedy).

“The light always wins over the darkness,” Karla said of transgender rights.

“I have a lot to say to you, because you may put us in jail, you may beat us up, but you can never take away our soul, our resistance or our identity. And I want to say to you: Raise your voice and say, ‘I am who I am, not who you want.’

French filmmaker Jacques Audiard’s critically acclaimed queer film also took home the trophy for best foreign-language film, but lost out on the awards for director, screenplay and score.

For the red carpet, Zoe took the plunge in a Saint Laurent by Anthony Vaccarello black sequin dress, matching Saint Laurent heels and Cartier jewelry selected by stylist Petra Flannery.

Hairstylist Mara Roszak gave Saldaña a “modern knotted updo” and makeup artist Vera Steimberg brought out her natural beauty for the HD cameras.

The Meet Me in Rome producer will next be the voice of Aunt Olga in Pixar’s animated alien abduction comedy Elio, which hits US and UK cinemas on June 13, alongside Brad Garrett, Jameela Jamil and Shirley Henderson.

Zoe will also reprise her motion-capture role as Neytiri in James Cameron’s three-part Avatar: Fire and Ash, opening in US and UK theaters on December 19, alongside Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang.
