New Girl actress Zoe Lister-Jones came out as queer this weekend and debuted her romance with a non-binary filmmaker.
The 41-year-old artist announced the news at the Film Independent Spirit Awards, which she attended with her new lover.
“I’m here, I’m queer, I have some anxiety, but I’m working through it,” Zoe shared with The Hollywood Reporter during the awards ceremony.
She is currently dating Sammi Cohen, the director of the Netflix comedy You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah, starring Adam Sandler, his wife Jackie and their daughters Sadie, 17, and Sunny, 15.
During her evening at the Spirit Awards, Zoe praised Sammi, who she passionately described as “an amazing filmmaker in her own right.”

Zoe and Sammi previously attended the Art Directors Guild Awards together in Hollywood on February 10, weeks before Zoe confirmed their romance.
Sammi identified as “a queer, non-binary, very progressive Jew,” in a Jewish magazine interview to promote You’re So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.
Zoe’s latest love life announcement comes a year and a half after she filed for divorce from her husband Daryl Wein, who is also a filmmaker.
Over the course of their 17 years together, Zoe and Daryl worked together on films including Breaking Upwards, Band Aid and How It Ends.
They co-wrote the 2012 film Lola Versus, which Daryl directed and Zoe co-starred with lead actress Greta Gerwig, who had yet to begin directing herself.
In 2021, about eight years after the wedding, Zoe told Marc Maron on his WTF podcast that she and Daryl had split.
She revealed that she and her husband had “been in and out of an open relationship” before going their separate ways.
Zoe confessed that the arrangement was made difficult by the fact that she was ‘constantly’ jealous when he slept with someone else.

She finally filed for divorce in September 2022, citing irreconcilable differences and giving February 1, 2021 as the date of separation. TMZ.
During her last conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Zoe commented: ‘I’m still very close to my ex-husband. We’ve made a lot of films together.’
She also brought up her relationship with Sammi while praising Film Independent for making the acting awards categories gender neutral.
‘I am so grateful to Film Independent that they are truly pioneers in that field. All awards shows should follow in their footsteps and make categories genderless,” said Zoe.
“I’m dating a non-binary person. I’m friends with so many non-binary people. And I think without really changing the paradigm on a larger scale, it closes a lot of doors to really important voices,” she added.
