One of the greatest mysteries in… The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been (more or less) resolved, as director Hidemaro Fujibayashi has provided an explanation as to why there is no Sheikah technology in the Nintendo Switch title despite its prevalence in its predecessor, Breath of the wild.
In Breath of the wild, the world of Hyrule is full of Sheikah technology, said to have been created thousands of years before the events of the game. From the towers in each region, the fearsome Guardians, enormous Divine Beasts and Link’s fancy iPad, the Sheikah Slate, there is an abundance. Meanwhile, despite Tears of the Kingdom It’s set just a few years after the events of its predecessor, but all of these things are missing, with no in-game reasoning given as to why.
In a new interview with The TelegraphFujibayashi has acknowledged this riddle: “They disappeared after the disaster was defeated (sealed),” Fujibayashi said, referring to the end of Breath of the wild. “All the people of Hyrule also witnessed this, but no one knows the mechanism or reason why they disappeared, and it is considered a mystery. It is believed that since the Calamity disappeared, they also disappeared because their roles were fulfilled.”
He continued, noting that Hyrule is no stranger to “mysterious occurrences and strange phenomena.” Therefore, he suggests, it makes sense that there is “no one who has tried to investigate the matter further” in the game. However, you would still think that Link might want to know where all his Sheikah Slate selfies went.
