Zara McDermott revealed she was ‘spit at’ by a man while Christmas shopping on Tuesday in a ‘despicable’, unprovoked attack.
The Love Island star turned documentary filmmaker, 28, took to her Instagram Story moments after the incident happened to share what happened with her two million followers.
She stood outside a Lidl store with her brother’s girlfriend Alice as she recalled the disgusting act.
Zara explained, “Guys, Alice and I are actually really shocked by what just happened. We just got some last minute Christmas pieces while walking down the street.
“Normal, normal stuff and this guy comes up to us out of nowhere and spits on us. Luckily he just missed because of the wind and then walked the other way. I can’t believe it.’
She wrote on the screen: ‘No, I’m shocked!!! What’s wrong with people?’ next to a crying emoji.

Zara later posted a screenshot of a DM from one of her followers, which read, “Misogony! How festive!’
The influencer wrote on the screen: ‘Merry Christmas!!! I’m still a bit in shock that someone could do that… I think I would have been really upset if I was alone!
‘Luckily I was with Alice! Had so many messages from other people who had experienced the same thing in London.
She added: ‘I have heard of men approaching women on the street and also punching them in the face (a friend of mine has also experienced this). It’s completely mean!’
The shocking attack came just after Zara revealed she would be spending her Christmas Day away from her boyfriend Sam Thompson, taking to Instagram to let her followers know she was heading back to Essex to celebrate.
The former Love Islander wrote: ‘Heading back to Essex for Christmas to spend some much needed time off with my family. I have been so looking forward to spending Christmas with them.
“I know I’m 28 now and my brother is 24, but we still have the same Christmas traditions that we do every Christmas that haven’t changed since we were little.”
She added, “I’m not ready to give that up yet (or ever). There is nothing more magical than waking up in your childhood home and experiencing some festive magic with your family.”
Turning to her cats, she joked, “Bye darlings, see you in a few days!! Daddy will take good care of you.’

She got cozy in the luxe loungewear and later wore a sweatshirt, relaxed sweatpants and black leggings, perfect for running errands and fitness classes.
Following the success of its debut collection at Tesco’s F&F, Zara has further expanded its brand with the introduction of high-quality ready-to-wear and fashionable staples in an easy-to-match neutral color palette.
After the showcase, Zara thanked everyone who attended on her Instagram and admitted that she always feels nervous before hosting an event.
She said: “We had a showroom event for Rise and I couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who came.
‘I can’t thank everyone enough for coming…real talk, but I always get nervous about my own events (even though I’ve only done three). Maybe it comes from when I had a birthday party as a teenager and everyone backed out at the last minute.
‘Thankfully that didn’t happen, and I’m so glad I have no words for it. I’m on cloud nine all day and this space is our new Rise headquarters.”
