Zak Crawley has admitted that England spent ‘too long’ in the Oval dressing rooms on Monday, but strongly denied Australian claims that the hosts disapproved of a post-series beer.
The angry Australians informed the media that Ben Stokes’ side had turned down their offer to have a few drinks after a hard-fought run this summer, claiming the hosts locked their dressing room doors when approached half a dozen times.
However, England captain Stokes stated that his side’s post-series wrap was taking longer than usual as tributes were paid to the retiring Stuart Broad and Moeen Ali and by the time the speeches had finished the Aussies had taken the cricket pitch left in South London. .
That claim has been refuted by the Australian camp, with a source saying: ‘We don’t really care, we’ve got the urn, but after a hard-fought run it’s pretty pathetic.’
And now, speaking to The Vaughany and Tuffers Cricket Club Podcast, Crawley acknowledged England had been in the dressing room ‘too long’ but insisted they weren’t censuring the Aussies.

“It was a shame that the timing just didn’t work,” said the opener.
“Obviously both teams do a debrief and ours is usually a bit shorter than Monday night.
“We had ‘Broady’ (Stuart Broad) who left, ‘Mo’ (Moeen Ali) who left and one of the physios left as well.
“So we had our normal debriefing and a goodbye for those guys. We sat there just a little too long and it didn’t quite work for the Aussies.
‘That was a pity. It wasn’t anyone’s fault, the timing just wasn’t quite right.’
