There’s only one way to use a colander, right?
From draining past, cooked vegetables and potatoes to washing your salad, a colander is indispensable in the kitchen.
But according to a TikToker, there is a much better way to use the tool.
But according to TikTok, the basic way we poured the water out of our colander is all wrong. Social media user @cookingcards has gone viral for showing users the ‘right way’ to use this product
Social media user @cookingcards has gone viral for showing users how they prefer to use this product, with many viewers saying the method is “truly genius.”
Others, however, are divided by the hack, saying it leaves food “all sticky” and full of bacteria.
Typically, you pour what’s in your pan along with the water into a colander placed in the sink so the water can drain freely.
However, the video has been liked more than 60,000 times, the TikToker has amazed users.
They captioned the message, “How to properly use a colander,” as thousands of viewers commented on the clip.
Instead of draining the water the traditional way, they placed the colander on top of the pan as a lid and used it to drain the water into the sink.
But it should be noted that this hack will only work if your colander is about the same size as the pan you are using.
And if you’re using a large amount of pasta, for example, then this trick may not be for you, as it can be difficult to hold the colander down without crushing the food.
Despite the seemingly genius new method, TikTok users are divided, with some leaving reviews.
Some people were impressed with the trick and said “OMG” and “NO WAY.”

And another cook said they would rather keep some of the pasta water. They commented, “Why isn’t anyone talking about the wasted pasta water?”
Commentators also asked why the colander is bowl-shaped when it is not intended to be used in the usual way, and that colanders could be flat if this method was the right one.
They wrote, ‘Then why does it have a stand’, as another said, ‘Then why does it have a stand on the bottom?’.
