Despite the name, experts say the quick wash cycle can cost you time and money.
‘The time you save by using your dishwasher’s quick wash cycle comes at a price’, Which? warned.
‘Tests showed that quick wash cycles cleaned and dried worse, used more energy and water and cost more than main or eco washes.’
The warning comes shortly afterwards. Which one? released a Manual in 11 steps on how to load your dishwasher.
From making sure your plates are facing the center to mixing plates and bowls, it turns out you’ve probably been doing it wrong this whole time.

All dishwashers have three core cycles: main/auto, eco and quick wash.
On average, the main/auto cycle lasts about 2 hours and 30 minutes, while the eco mode lasts 3 hours and 55 minutes.
Quick washes vary in length, but typically last about an hour.
Which one? put these cycles to the test by running a snapshot test on three major brand models.
Their analysis showed that the Quick wash cleans less effectively than the main program and scores 74 percent versus 83 percent.
Quick Wash also did slightly worse at drying dishes, scoring 76 percent efficiency versus 82 percent, and left more water spots on items after a cycle.
‘It doesn’t clean and dry as well as the main cycle, uses more energy and water and costs more to run.’ Which one? said.
“It just realistically saves you time.”

The consumer champion also looked at the average cost of running your dishwasher on different cycles.
Based on five washes per week using only the main cycle, this would cost an average of €62.82 per year, according to the experts.
In contrast, using only quick washing would cost slightly more: on average €68.07.
The dishwasher isn’t the only appliance you may be using incorrectly.
The experts warn that quick drying programs on tumble dryers also have disadvantages.
‘They can often use more energy per kilo of substances compared to the standard programs’ Which one? explained.
‘They also don’t get the clothes completely dry, so if your dryer has moisture sensors, it’s better to use a standard cycle.’
