YouTube TV on Android introduces the new Multiview feature. Here’s how to use it
A few months ago, the YouTube TV app on iOS got Multiview, a feature that allows subscribers to watch up to four different sports games at the same time. A company spokesperson told us at the time that Android users wouldn’t get the update until later this summer. It seems that the platform has accelerated development because Multiview on YouTube TV for Android Devices have recently been spotted rolling out.
All you have to do to take advantage of this feature is use the latest version of the app on your smartphone or tablet. Once you’ve installed the patch, scroll down while on the Home tab until you see the ‘Watching in Multiview’ section. Then select a group you want to view. Audio will initially play from the live stream in the top left corner. You can change the audio source by double tapping on another stream. The first time the Play/Pause button appears in the center, and the second time it switches.
You’ll know you’ve done it right when the live stream has a white highlighted border around it. It’s important to note that if you double-tap on a source while the Play/Pause button is showing, you can expand it to full screen. Similarly, in portrait view, you can click the Go To option to go to a specific game or program.
You cannot create your own Multiview setup. Users must choose one of four pre-selected live streams offered by the platform. The customization tool remains exclusive to the smart TVs.
Not just sports
According to 9To5Google, the update can “work on any device” and does not require powerful hardware. All the heavy lifting is done by YouTube. The publication states that Multiview is “largely limited to sports content.” However, in our experience this was not the case. We were able to watch four different news sources at once, including Fox News, CNN, MSNBC and BBC News. In addition, there were two economic programs and a few weather channels. To see the others, scroll the content carousel to the left.
There is a chance that you may not see Multiview at first. A Google representative said The edge the patch is currently rolling out to Android owners and will continue to do so in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for the update as it arrives. If you still don’t see it, try closing and then reopening YouTube TV. We did that when we didn’t see the new part.
In addition to this upgrade, a handful of users have reported getting the 1080p Enhanced option appears again on their Apple TV. This setting allows people to enjoy content in 1080p resolution with a high bitrate, allowing for a better quality stream. The validity of this feature is shaky as YouTube has not made an official announcement yet. That is why we have asked for clarification.
