Sports presenter Diletta Leotta, fiancee of Newcastle goalkeeper Loris Karius, has opened up about the sexist comments she has received from her critics.

The 32-year-old, who regularly appears on fans’ screens in her native Italy, revealed that most of the discriminatory statements come from women, admitting the vitriol ‘hurt like crazy’.

“The worst part was: ‘You’re only here because of your tits.'” she told F Magazine. ‘A colleague from Sky Sport told me how people were talking about me.

‘I had just arrived, I was twenty years old: it hurt like crazy. At home that evening I let out a liberating cry. That brought out the lion in me, I learned a lot.

‘I have my diploma [in law] so that no one could ever say such a thing to me again.’

Leotta and Karius started dating in October 2022 before having a child in August the following year and then getting engaged in February this year.

She lives in her home country with their daughter Aria, while Karius lives in Newcastle while involved in club football, although the former Liverpool stopper is out of contract at the end of June.

Leotta continued to share her negative experiences in broadcasting, claiming that solidarity and mutual understanding among women are in short supply.

“The problem is competition between women,” she claimed, which rears its ugly head when “we are in positions normally occupied by men, such as in football.”

Although the disparaging statements from her peers have decreased since her younger days, the DAZN host and model still receives criticism.

Earlier this month, renowned Italian journalist and presenter Paola Ferrari criticized Leotta’s choice of clothing, claiming that ‘ennobling the nude’ was a step backwards for women in the industry.

“She’s very good and brings in advertising revenue.” Ferrari told Corriere della Sera. “But if you ask me if I want my daughter Virginia to be like me, I’ll say no.

‘Nowadays it is fashionable to claim your freedom by showing yourself without clothes: the time of Mary Quant is over. Ennobling the nude with feminism seems insignificant to me: once we did not want to appear beautiful but good, now they want to be beautiful first and foremost, it is a step backwards.’

Earlier this year, Leotta made headlines when he asked Karius to leave St James’ Park due to the inconvenience of living in the area.

The German has made one appearance for the club this season, winning the 4-1 defeat to Arsenal in February, having put pen to paper on a new contract in the summer after impressing Eddie Howe during his time at his team. .

“Loris has people at his side who work for him,” she told the Italian newspaper Tuttosport. ‘I hope he makes the best decision for his career.
