Younger brother of famed NRL star Payne Haas arrested after allegedly attempting to smuggle more than $1 MILLION worth of meth into New South Wales

- The 19-year-old recently lost a friend to a drug overdose
Payne Haas’ younger brother has reportedly been caught attempting to smuggle $1 million worth of methamphetamine from Queensland to New South Wales.
Zeda Haas, 19, was arrested around 11.45am on Tuesday in Beresfield, west of Newcastle, for allegedly attempting to bring 1.8kg of ice into the state.
NSW Police confirmed they stopped the couple at Apprentice Close in Beresfield before allegedly finding the apparent drugs which are said to have an estimated street value of over $1 million.
“Both men were arrested at the scene and taken to Maitland Police Station,” the statement read.
“There they were charged with trafficking in commercial quantities of controlled drugs, and with supplying illegal drugs – large commercial quantities.”

The suspects were denied bail and will appear before Maitland Local Court on Wednesday.
Zeda’s arrest comes just months after his friend, Jeremiah Lolohea, lost his life after a drug overdose.
He was one of three men rushed to hospital after the mass overdose in May at a Gold Coast home.
Zeda’s older brother Payne signed a lucrative new contract with the Brisbane Broncos on Tuesday. There is no suggestion that the NSW attacker was involved in the alleged drug trafficking.
