Young mother is murdered by her convicted murderer boyfriend during a conjugal visit after writing a message saying she would be ‘loyal even in death’

A young mother was allegedly suffocated by her partner, who was a convicted murderer, during a marital prison visit.

Gisella Pérez Gaspar, 27, is believed to have been murdered on Sunday by Cristian Alexis Rivas Sánchez, 26, in a maximum security prison in Palmira, Valle del Cauca department, Colombia, while visiting her partner.

Three hours after Gaspar entered the prison, the alarm was raised. Authorities were dispatched to respond to reports of “physical aggression” on a prison compound.

Medics were called to assist Gaspar in the prison’s health care facility, but were only able to determine that she had lost vital signs.

Officials later said she died due to the severity of her head wounds.

Her partner, who is currently in prison for murder, arms trafficking and conspiracy to commit a crime, is accused of suffocating her.

Following news of her death, it was reported that Gaspar had written heartbreaking messages on social media highlighting how they would get through this together after his incarceration, adding: “You know I’m… loyal even after the dead’.

“No matter where you are, I will be with you until the end,” reads a message on a photo of the couple

“A shot is heard, the community arrives, this young woman is taken to a medical center, but due to the severity of the wound, which was to the head, she died,” Colonel Carlos Germán Oviedo, commander of the police of Cali. .

Sánchez is now expected to be charged with femicide.

Gisella leaves behind a three-year-old daughter, but it is not clear whether the suspect is the biological father of the girl.

Gisella had written on social media in February, shortly after Sánchez was imprisoned in Palmira, Colombia: “My love, I want you to know that I love you.

‘I’ll be there for you. These are just tests, my dear.

“I know we will get through this and much more if we trust God. Just have a little patience.

“Remember that I will always be there for you, in the good times, the bad times and even the worst of times. I know you and I can do it, don’t be defeated, my love.

“Remember, we are waiting for you, my love. You know you’re my darling. You know that I am steadfast, true, and loyal, even after death.”

Palmira official William Andrey Espinosa said: “We regret the incident that took place in the prison and penitentiary center of Villa de las Palmas, where this 27-year-old woman was murdered by her own partner.

“We have asked the authorities, and especially the Public Prosecution Service, to investigate.”

Reports of femicide in the region have increased in recent years.

Officials in Cali met earlier this year to discuss possible preventive policies aimed at tackling violence against women, with 10 femicides reported in 2023 alone.

“We have seven femicides and four more cases to be classified, including the case that unfortunately occurred yesterday in the city of Palmira,” said Yurani Andrea Ordóñez, Minister of Women, Gender Equality and Sexual Diversity of the Valle del Cauca department.

Violence against women in Colombia has increased dramatically in recent years.

Between 2019 and 2020, the number of reports increased from 571 to 630.

Another 612 were reported in 2022 alone.

Femicide is defined as the killing of women because of their gender.

There is a lack of resources, a high degree of impunity and cultural discrimination suggested as reasons for the continued trend.
