Young girl plunges 40 meters down a mountain as grief-stricken loved ones gather

A woman has been taken to hospital after jumping 40 meters down a steep slope at a lookout point.

The girl, believed to be 24 years old, fell just before 2.30pm on Friday at the Cameron Falls Lookout in Tamborine National Park in the Gold Coast Hinterland.

A member of the Queensland and Fire Emergency crew climbed down the mountain to reach her before she was taken to safety.

Dramatic Nine news vision showed the woman stuck in the rugged bushland with a rescue worker as distressed loved ones waited upstairs with the police.

The woman was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with bruises and minor abrasions and was in a stable condition.
