The heartbroken family of an 11-year-old boy who was struck by a car in a supermarket parking lot has revealed that he had traveled interstate to say goodbye to his dying grandfather.

It is understood that the 54-year-old driver of the van intended to back up, but accidentally “stumbled” forward onto the sidewalk, pinning the boy, who was walking in front, between the van and the wall of the grocery store. bottles.

The family had hoped this Christmas would be the last they would spend with Daemarius’s grandfather, as he has stage four cancer.

Daemarius had just bought fish and chips with his cousin and uncle and was walking back to the car when he was fatally struck.

Despite the desperate efforts of customers, supermarket staff and paramedics, the 11-year-old boy could not be saved.

Since then, his distraught family has established a GoFundMe to raise funds to bring his body back to Queensland.

His family described him as an “energetic, caring, cheeky and caring young man”.

‘Dae Dae knew how to play a good game of backyard rugby with his brothers at home. He also loved his rubix cube and could solve it fast,” his family wrote.

‘Daemarius was a smart and intelligent young man, being the eldest of 6 boys and everyone looked up to his older brother.

Taken too soon, Daemarius leaves behind his loving parents, Daniel and Keshia, his brothers and sisters, and a large family that will forever miss his loving cousin, nephew, and grandson.

The name ‘Daemarius’ means warrior and he lived up to that name to the end.’

His family also added that he was crazy about rugby, being a superfan of the North Queensland Cowboys and NRL stars Johnathan Thurston and Latrell Mitchell.
